dangers of soy?

Anyone have any good resources for the dangers of soy - especially where infants are concerned? I have been off dairy for a few weeks now because my baby is sensitive to the proteins, but I really miss stuff like milk and cereal and lattes and, sadly, ice cream. I know there is rice milk but I can't stand the way that tastes. Anyway I have heard and read some things about soy being a less-than-ideal substitute for milk, but there is so much conflicting information out there. Does anyone know of some good resources? Preferbaly ones that are not funded by the dairy council or the soy council (is there a soy council?) Thanks!

Have you tried almond milk? It's expensive but very yummy.

There is a good write up of the 2001 study on Dr. Andrew Weil's web site. It was a follow-up study as the other commenter said, and the study indicated no problems really.

As to whether Dr. Weil is independent, I feel that he is. In fact he sometimes stakes out quite radical view points.

THis is the link:

If that doesn't work, you can go to www.drweil.com and search for "soy infant forumla", which isn't quite what you're asking but should be close enough.

I remember a study that came out in 2001 (I know you asked for refs but i cant remember where they study originated). They tracked babies who were fed strictly soy formula into adulthood and there were no differences between them and milk based formula fed adults. But as you suggested, it can make a big difference who does the study and I am not sure of the source.
