breech techniques?
Just wondering if any of you out there have any tricks for turning a "heads-up" baby, "heads-down"? I am 34 weeks pregnant and the baby has recently repositioned his or her self into a breech/transverse position. i'm not TOTALLY stressed about it (yet!), but we were really hoping to have as natural a birth as possible. . . it's my first. i was hoping the my pre-natal yoga class would help, but not yet. any tips or similar experiences?
wrote a great book called "yoga: a gem for women" it has all special considerations for pregnancy, childbirth, menses, you name it. i can't recommend it enough.

You can buy moxa yourself from Chinese or Korean pharmacies. There are a million sites that describe how to do it and it works very well for some (not us) although I think its best in conjunction with acupunture. I had an ECV at 35 or 36 weeks that was successful and WAY easier than anything I had read indicated. It only took about 5 minutes and he stayed but he was small and I had lots of fluid so I guess that helps. I tried the pelvic tilts and laying with my pelvis elevated and nothing came of it. Good luck.
Keep us posted. I know it can be unnerving, especially once the c-section thing gets tossed around, but I bet you'll be fine. Are they sending you for an ultrasound to confirm the position? I had one and that was where they let me know that his size in respect to level of fluid was really in my favour. Again, good luck mama...r
worked in a study I read....
I know they can turn late good luck mama!

I did it 37 weeks along with Ari. I actually felt him flip back around. It was like an earthquake in my body!

Do you do inverses in your practice? My girl was breech for the longest time too. She finally did turn around 36 weeks. I did yoga weekly, then daily, I was so worried.

yes, my girl was breech at 35 weeks and the midwives did a successful version one morning in my 36th week after I practiced the following measures:
-propping an ironing board on the couch and laying with my head down, with an ice pack pressed to her head for as long as I could stand it
-lay on my back with my knees bent & hips up for several periods throughout the day
-taking pulsatilla (homeopathic remedy from whole foods)
-meditating a lot on her turning
-drinking a huge amount of fluids to keep my amniotic fluid up so that she could still have room to flip over
good luck mama! hope you get the natural birth you're wishing for
I forgot all about the pulsatilla. try that, too...r
I had an appointment all lined up for an ultrasound & doctor visit to do the hospital version, but one of the midwives had a success rate with gentle natural versions, so I agreed to try that out. It was a very slow and conscienscious event- the baby was pretty loose in there, and every couple of inches they'd check her heart rate and I'd evaluate how I felt internally, etc. It only hurt on the outside, on my skin kind of like rug burn. Midwife had the baby turned 90 degrees and held her there, and all of a sudden she slipped down the rest of the way and settled her head into my pelvis smoothly. I slept upright for the next couple of nights (well, maniacally obsessed over her staying down & slept barely), and she managed to stay down til labor began right at 38 weeks!
one of the midwives in the practice I used did the version for me and she was amazing. I had trouble being on my back but the skin thing wasn't an issue for me.
that shows you how to do this, and also how to deliver a breech baby safely, for midwives - also there are tips in her book Ina May's Guide To Childbirth - her's the site url: http://www.farmcatalog.com/index.htm - good luck!

Glad to hear you had a positive experience with the ECV. . .one of my midwives immediately jumped to the idea of one if things hadn't changed by 36 weeks. she also immediately started talking about a c-section which freaked me out a bit. i'll look into the moxabustion and keep up with my pelvic tilts. thanks to you all
