this is how we fund schools:
Race to the Top, created under the obama admin, is a competition between states for federal funding. there are several applications, in which states prove to the federal government that they are in compliance with "new" regulations, er, standards.
some states opted out. my state, having made it to the Last Round (kinda like "who wants to be a millionaire?"), made a mistake on one of answer on the 1000 page application for the final round. we lost 500 million in funding, because on that question someone entered a number from the wrong year.
so, if that 1000 page application were one of the standardized tests by one of the corporations that our obama has such a boner for, what would be the grade on that test??
assholes. public education is such a fucking sham. and obama's a smarmy shit.

I heard the Lt. Gov. of Colorado pointing out that the standards are skewed toward Eastern, and more urban, states. It's just cronyism. Same shit, different flies.

studies of their processes revealed that the first two finalists were chosen arbitrarily.
the schools commissioner here was asked to resign to take the fall for this "mistake." he refused saying something like, and don't quote me because i wasn't there, "fuck you. fire me, you fat bastard." so our rotund, grandiose, attention starved governor fired him.
some say he did this on purpose, getting federal funds withheld so that he can use frame it as NJ got one question on a 1000 page application wrong, was not given an opportunity to correct it, and lost 500 million in funding, for his presidential campaign in 2012 against obama. but then the federal dept of education fired back with a video of the education dept interviewing HIM, and asking for the correct figures, which he did not provide.
meanwhile this man made a name for himself by cutting $820 million in state funding for public education, and now NJ was jumping through hoops to get the federal funding. now we have neither.
and in none of these accusations and meetings, does anyone talk about how it will impact their kids. maybe they don't attend public school.
remember when our government was mandated to provide an education to all people 18 and under? me neither.
