we're going to look at an apartment...

it's in the city i work in, so it would mean no more commute. it would mean i'd have to find a new preschool for DD, but it would be worth it: there's two bedrooms (YAY! no more living on the couch for me!), it's close to work, it's the same price as where we live now (with heat included), and i bet the landlord is way less of a douche than Captain Slumlord who owns where i live right now. it's in the inner city, and while i don't love the area it's in i'm staying openminded because i don't know which house it actually is. i do like that it's in a house rather than a big apartment complex, and it's on the third floor-- which i like for single mama safety reasons but hate for other reasons, like moving all my shit three floors up.

so any vibes would be so so so appreciated; vibes that it's as great as the pics make it look, vibes that the part of the 'hood it's in isn't too overwhelming for me, vibes that the owner is as flexible on the deposit as he says he is, and vibes that he likes us.

leaving in one hour...here goes!

soooo...

it went well. "flexible" with the deposit means they'll add $50/mo onto my rent until they have an extra month's rent set aside. it wasn't as close to the rougher parts of the city as i thought it was, so it was a nice surprise to find that it's on a quiet street full of 3 family houses. the building (and all the others on the street) is a bit rundown but still in fine condition. the apartment itself is rundown too but everything is functioning and safe, which is all that matters, really. it was a pretty charming little place. the first bedroom is a pretty good size and has two huge walk-in closets, the second bedroom is small and doesnt have a closet but i doubt my three year old would complain. there's a cozy and private porch off the kitchen where i know i'd spend alot of time when it's nice outside. the other tenants on the 1st and 2nd floors are old and they said they hardly ever see them. i'd have off-street parking and automatic snow removal in winter, awesome. it's not even a mile from downtown so we could walk to most places we'd need to go. there's a park two blocks over that DD was super excited about and the biggest thing of all is...it's a mile from work. there's a YMCA nearby that i'd look into for DD's daycare and pre-school, and that's only a half mile away. so i'd potentially be a half mile from her school and a mile from work, which is amaaazing.

overall, i got a great vibe. the tenant living there now is breaking the lease because he and his girlfriend have to move for work, so he's doing the initial showing of the apartment and weeding out of undesirables for the landlord to help him out. he said out of the dozen or so people he's shown it to he's recommending us first, because they're looking for someone stable and dependable, and apparently i convinced him i'm both of those things. ha, who'da thunk it?!

so yes, i'd love to live there. i think it would work out well. i've lived in this craptastic shitfest for way too long and put up with way too much from my ass landlord, so this move would be way overdue. moving thirty miles away and getting a fresh start in a cute little third floor apartment in the city with my girl is awfully appealing, so here's hoping it works out!

thanks for the vibes, everyone! Smile
