We got a dog a few months ago and he is a sweetie! His name is Doobie Mac. He is the best puppy ever. He's about 17-18 weeks now, (NO edited to correct Brian said he's about 24 weeks old!! I lost track ha ha) and getting BIG. He is a pit mix and we think weimeranier but no papers or anything on him, he was a giveaway. He fits our family perfectly, we love Doobie!

We got a cat a few days ago, a good friend of ours is moving and new place won't take pets. So we were able to get her! Her name is Moon, my friend named her after a book or verse in the Koran, I forget which. I call her Miss Moon. She is very friendly and gets along with Doobie already! She had to put him in his place though, he tried to front on her at first. Now when he goes into his cage at night she sits outside it and looks sad. LOL!

I've been making lots of things, ostensibly to keep my mind off the bookstore issues. But as you know I likes to sew! Filling up my etsy store nicely! Speaking of which, please fan Earthy Style on facebook. thanks!!

Speaking of the bookstore, I wanted to open this summer but looks like that's not going to happen Sad Still so much work to do, including ripping up the carpet in the back room and getting the leaky ceiling fixed. and we need to build mass shelves, it's unreal how much bigger the space is than the last storefront. I underestimated the amount of time we'd need to re-open. which is ok, we'll do what we gotta, but in the meantime I'm paying rent on space that's not making me any money. I haz bills!!

Lots of Work Texture Bookstore

My garden is going great! even though it is basically neglected. It's kind of a wild place to be since mid-July, I kinda just quit weeding and tending to it. But my husband built me a new fence for it for Mother's Day which is super awesome because it has kept the critter's out! I have been able to grow cucumber, eggplant, bok choi, ok in the garden in the first time in YEARS. usually I would grow these things up on the balcony because the fauna would get at them unless I was up on it about protecting my garden. This year, no worry, no fuss!

Well that's my main news. I'm basically just cooling out, working on the bookstore, working my etsy store, working my websites/blogs, writing a lot. I have a new issue of my zine coming out soon. Loving this summer with my man and boys. We don't see much of Iyende but she is having a super great summer far as I can tell, working and going to the beach and parties and stuff with her crowd. I miss her though, every day but I try to give her space. She's a grown woman, she don't want her mama calling her all the time LOL.

Heres us lovebirds at a ball game recently:

God I love him SO MUCH! Hope you all are well and I will try not to be such a stranger! Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile

awesome update!

Party loved the pics of the garden, and keep going on the bookstore, give yourself whatever time you need to gut it out, it's worth it in the end!

moon and doobie mac rule! so cute, they really compliment and round out your family perfectly! what a great time to add them into the mix! great work lady!

(plus, these kinds of projects always take longer than expected, right?). and maybe that's a good thing. you've got a full and tasty plate lady, you're a doing a fabulous job balancing everything, give yourself some credit!

me? i'm up late, i tried to see basquait and guess who ducked into the wrong theater door?!! me?!! nutcase!! i never do this, but the northwest film forum is ghetto fabulous, there is no underpaid person standing around telling you: "to your left!". how funny is that?

i ended up seeing this campy yet horribly great japanese film *i'm not even a huge asian cinema fan, but this was made in the 70's and will actually help me shoot my friends horror film first quarter!*.

i dressed to kill, got my popcorn and had to take my heels off and run down the stairs when it was time to pee! i know that must have looked ridiculous! the stairs are like "triple stairs" way too wide to take just one step on in the dark, and i'm the lady who has wiped out on them spilling my popcorn more than once!

it was fun, and now i'm home watching a really cool narrative about aids that i had wanted to see a few years ago when it came out - "three needles", great story! you might like this one!

i'll see basquait next week!

Basquait!

I would love to see that film, his life was so interesting and art so very good. I am cracking up at the theater though, LOL! The campy asian film, funness!

yah we are taking the time we need with the bookstore. I was all set to open with the funky carpet and minimal shelves (we have up about 100 bookcases and still need to make more) and Brian was like, OH. NO, let's do this right! ha ha. He's right, this is a different locale/area than the last storefront, more 'upscale' I guess. My last storefront was in a kinda gritty, rural small city area so that kind of thing was on the norm.

DON'T see: "hausu" or house! seriously!

Party i love you way too much to torture with this crap!

funny indeed *i never use the freakin' word "indeed", and i mean NEVER unless it's really warranted!

it wasn't a complete waste of time, and one of the many cool bonuses working for the forum this summer is seeing movies for free, basquait and at least one cool old french film is on my list in the next two months! my "wiggly world" membership would have discounted the ticket to a measly $6 bucks, but dang! free is so nice, i appreciate that they do this for their people who work hard for them, it shows a lot in my book!

BUT - so weird, and horribly done in a great kind of way, but not something i would ever recommend. i say this and i absolutely love roger corman, *his films and his business sense/style/etiquette*. but sheesh! he makes films like this on a dime, but they are GOOD MOVIES!!! draw the line people!~

SOMEWHERE!

now onto brighter pastures:

brian is totally right, i support your decision to wait, you've got a ton of other things going on, plus taking care of the kids, pets, manbot - (who does an amazing job taking care of his woman! go brian! that pic of you guys makes me smile!), etc. *the zine is going to be hot, tell me where to find a copy when the time comes to publish it/release it*.

i want to send you a copy of Rescue on a disc when she's ready to roll out.

building the bookshelves and re-carpeting are a necessary touch to your new store! you worked so hard to get this spot, remember how everything just kind of opened up? where are the books being held? you guys have a storage spot? at home? i know it must be a lot!

my vote: mixing some dressed up/fancy/new and improved deco style with the funky, grittier edgier look of your original shop, will score in this new hood.

just do what you can, when you can.

keep going and growing, like you do!

loved the narrative done on basquiat years ago, very good, nice writing and storytelling - A-listers all the way. this doc was done by tamra davis *another fav of mine, check out her fabulous older film, i know you and brian will remember: "guncrazy" and of course she did the billy madison's, etc. she was his friend and the footage is all her's from way back when, i think it was gutsy of her to make this film, especially right now.

her husband mike d of the beastie's contributed music to the soundtrack, lot's of cool jazzy beats, that basquait liked.

that film sounds awesome

I am going to get it as soon as I sign up for netflix!
- the books are in storage and some at home, I have about a thousand at home, just for easy access when I sell a book for texture online.
- the zine is called Positive Emergence and I have a site for it:

Thanks for all your kind words! I really appreciate your support!! you don't know what a big help it is to have (((hugs))) Smile

oh poop

That looks like Cadillac, we were just in Maine too (we go to Southwest Harbor, which is on Mount Desert Island) every summer. One year we should meet up! Glad you had fun. I love Maine, we always have such a great time there!

Love the new kitty and the puppy!!! I love how cats totally whip the butts of dogs and then are all like, no, I want to be your best friend! really! Our then 3.5lb kitten did that to our dogs and now he wants to be best friends with them. And they look at him like he's crazy. hahaha.

Fantastic fence that MM built you - great mother's day gift!

yah it's Cadillac!

We go every year the end of July, to Boothbay Harbor, and we visit many places up and down the coast. Husband's aunt and uncle have a place on Mt. Desert Island so we visit them, and while there hit Cadillac. It's grand!! I love it Smile

a meetup would be coolness!! when do you go? I am in love with Maine, it's so awesome. This year I tried lobster, scallops, haddock (I was a vegetarian for 24 years and last Thanksgiving started eating meat again) and LOVE them. ^_^
