sunday - early morning grats - got my hair did! Xsty
things to be grateful for:
1. A. i took mars out post hair-did and ,we stormed downtown for shots. she loves to come with me when i'm shooting, especially at night! we shot some cabs, saturday night fun/night life and when we came up on some cool/very nice/kind street kids, i introduced myself and told them what i was filming, i asked them if i could take some anonymous shots of them, and they were happy to help - i paid them what i had in my pocket $10*. they were excited to do it, and it was cool. we were just getting started when they were asked to move. i shot them and then remembered that i should have asked them to pose/set up some shots...
2. we saw them again and i gave them whatever was left in my pockets *$7* and staged some amazing shots on the outside steps of westlake. i talked with them a bit, and it was nice - they were eager to show their faces, but i told them that it was better not too. i took some excellent shots of their shoes, hands, cigarettes, etc. you'll see it in my film. one of the girls said: "usually people are scared of us". i told her that it was because they hadn't experienced street life, and that they probably wouldn't make it if they had too. she agreed. everyone was over 20, and i got lucky. they wished me well on my project and i hugged them goodbye. it was nice. not everyone wants to be in a film, but most people understand the benefit.
just # 4. i'm up late - i usually am.
5. my resume is coming together. i needed to make more changes, the sucker is like 2 pages long and 3 if i add film credits! gotta pair it down, so i will.
6. after spending 5 hours in the chair, this is it! i like it alot, i colored my bangs red on my own about a month ago - but wanted something professionally done - val is the best! he gets it right the first time, and loves to work the curls into my hair! farah fawcett/70's never looked so good - why don't more women wear this haircut?!!
7. i am dreaming up some good stuff this week.
8. i have all the time in the world.
9. time to rest.
10. ticia and i shot on friday night and it was a blast! we shot up some motel/hotels (we needed generic signs) and i'll shoot some more tomorrow. i took us out to dinner and we discussed where we were headed, fund raising for next years films, menfolk, the works. i love her dearly!
love you
11. i am happy and satisfied at this very moment.

I am loving the hair, in the picture the red streak looks like it has a bunch of shades in it and your colouring can really take the strong contrast of the black and red, gorgeous!
I find your descriptions of film making so interesting, I'd never thought about having to shoot exteriors, signs, scene setting stuff. It’s also great that the rights of your subjects are your number one priority, I hadn't thought about the moral dimension of making a permanent record of a time in someone’s life.
Have a great day, keep marching!

Hey! I am nearly finished for the Summer, I am writing my final report and preparing for a presentation on Friday. Loads of data analysis, stats and graphs today! Then I just have a grant application workshop and my file of evidence to complete and my masters is done! Yay! What a relief!
The babe has irritated me this am, after a grumpy morning made worse by the fact that the required school bag prep had not been done the night before I just gotta phone call from her from school, quite cocky mind you, not one bit upset, informing me that she had forgotten her PE kit and it was interform sports day. The inference was I was going to grab it and take it down to school!
Well, I have done that kind of stuff before and it looks like its creating an irresponsible kid! I said NO, the hardest worD FOR A MOTHER TO SAY! NO NO NO. My heart is tugging as I.m sat here, its hard not to just knee jerk solve the problem, ease the hurt, make it better but I know its the right thing in the long run. KIds !!! arrgh
when is your offical finish date? I can't believe how fast its gone! Yu have come so far its crazy. I can see the NYC thing happening, I think thats your city!
Take care

your hair looks really cute, this suits you very well!
I came across a couple of quotes that reminded me of you:
Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony. ~Mahatma Gandhi
You must first be who you really are, then do what you need to do, in order to have what you want.~Margaret Young
I LOVE the hair!!
It's tough to come out of black though & it's gorgeous but I need to have flexibility.
My new color was accidental, experimenting with tubes of color I had on hand but I am happy with the results.
the sulfate free ones work well. I like to switch once a month, because...just because. L*real everpure was the last, right now tre$emme 'naturals' which isn't that natural I don't think. I am luke warm on it but I love their dry shampoo.
Cold water rinse is the best & never washing it very hot which is tough because I like my showers steamy but if my color will last longer I will take slightly colder showers
I get some stuff at the beauty supply, Coloresse and I haven't used their shampoos but the styling products I've used work really well.
The style is great, but I really think it's your energy that makes it look so fantastic. Wow!

thinking about you all day! i know you're having some fun! are you completely "off" school, *i know you're working on some cool stuff, but what is your summer schedule like?*.
i know you posted about submitting an application to a special program, i wasn't sure if it was for the summer or fall.
thanks for all your support - the hair, girl!!!?? i tell you i had to switch something up big time, i told him that i was interviewing for some straight jobs in the next few weeks, the color will fade a bit and mellow out on it's own - i kind of like the contrast though, it's working.
i had to change up my make up a bit - that red is startling! especially at the ripe old age of 37! ha!
yes, you're right - there's a fine line between involving your subjects and protecting their privacy/anonymity. it was cool that the kids i met were down with showing their faces, they live the reality, they know what it takes to get real resources out to people in need....my wish is to make films that will help move that kind of progress on a bit further, inch by inch - what else can we do? someone needs to document reality, in order to really make a difference in terms of putting a face to an issue, and resolving the issue for good, etc.
i had been manifesting this one for a few months and i wasn't really sure if i'd get the chance, funny enough, it's never easy to approach people, i still have to ramp up to do it and i get nervous, i suppose i always will.
and maybe that's a good thing! i am big on the trade part, a lot of the folks i work with seem to think that "something for nothing" is okay - while there are certainly instances when it is, most of the time, i think you need to offer up something for that immediate trade. it's a huge responsibility to work in the media, it's no joke and i certainly take it to heart.
all of this work, preparation and dedication to Rescue, my prior graffiti work - has been in preparation of me going under the city of new york, i can feel it.
today i approached a woman on the bus to shoot her i-pod and she was cool with it - she was also a local artist, and the ladies at my nail shop hooked me up with some amazing shots of getting my nails done, the owner pitched in and braided another woman's hair, everyone helped me get the shots i needed.
this is a group effort! tomorrow - i'll meet up with my entire crew, which i'm very happy about. we need to hash out one of the interviews audio issues, and i need to discuss with them the next steps. wish me luck girl!
onward - love you always - CX
