One Year

Wow - I can't believe it, but the boys will be one year old in just five days. This has been the most exhilerating and exhausting year of my life. I'm still trying to figure out how to celebrate. I don't want gifts bought this time - if money is spent it will be on a donation to a children's charity. I've thought about the whole tree planting (or two!) as well. But I am still trying to think of the one thing that will make it special.
How did you mamas celebrate (or how do you plan to celebrate) the joyous occassion?

do the whipped cream thing .. a big bowl with or without utensils. Photos to mark the occasion. Official birthday hat.

I love the tree planting idea.

I had to move the day my son turned one. He didn't even get a cake. We lived 3000 miles away from anyone who loves us, and we did nothing but pack, load boxes, unload boxes, and unpack.
We got something in the mail every day for two weeks though, and he still gets excited about the mail. :)

"Don't rock the boat?" But the boat is sinking from the dead weight of its dishonesty. Perhaps rocking it might spill out the cargo that's sinking it. - John Taylor Gatto

Don't feel bad, unless I can get my slack ass to a nursery (plant store variety) they won't even get the planting! And I don't have moving as an excuse.

Ezra's first birthday was just two weeks ago and we had a huge party, not so much for him but for Jake and I. We couldn't believe we made it through this year and we wanted to celebrate with everyone who helped us out along the way. We had all of our family and all of our friends, served nothing but home made salsa and of course, cake! Jake and I made a video for Ezra which we all watched then opened presents. (we kept those to a minimum). Then we took a group photo so that when Ezra is older he can see all of the people that came together to celebrate his first year on the planet. It was a blast.

Happy belated to yours too!
I'm pretty disappointed right now because my parents won't be there - the 5 hour drive is just too much for them (they're older and have various health issues). So I'm thinking of keeping it low key - some presents (from grandma that is here), a shovel, some sapplings ... and oh, yes, a homemade cake by mama.
And maybe some vino for mama and daddy as a pat on the back for making it through the 1st year! :) :)

If not a bottle of champagne!
