Eeek! I just (basically) was offered a graphic design internship!
For a Worker's Rights Organization!!!!!
I have posters, etc. to design for a May rally/anniversary!
EEEKKKKKKK!!!!!!
OK. Not going to get TOO excited here. Just moderately excited. Eek.
(It's going to be alot of work- but real world experience + internship......well- in a perfect world, everyone wins. And it's doing something I believe in! They help unions all over the state! And it was hinted that I could help with some political stuff come next election, although I'm going to keep that on the dl for now.)
Is this what positive challenge/stress feels like?
IS THIS EMPOWERMENT???

Go for it. So much of the graphic design industry is about making some corporation's X, Y, Z look better. This sounds like the perfect combination of creativity + activism that you've been looking for. Have fun!
so proud of you, words just don't say enough/do it justice!

Just last night I had someone tell me that I had made an orgasmic Peruvian stew- so good, he almost had a cigarette after eating it- and I was THIS CLOSE to saying to hell with graphic design I'm just going to open up a shop and make people and myself happy with food.
I'm not interested in graphic design to make money- I want graphic design in order to- dare I say it- rule the world.
Thanks! I might have to cut back on my posting a bit because I really want to take this seriously- if I make some kick ass posters/rally signs I could actually help change the world here. Which is SO much better than an internship at an online used car dealer- which was another thing I was considering- they have a great fun corporation though, and they are thriving even in this economy- they have Nerf blasters they use on each other in the workspace to let off tension- and they have this incredible converted warehouse that is one of the most insane interior design schemes you'll ever see for cubicles.....
These people NEED me. And I wasn't sure if it would be a chance to fill my internship requirement for college and community service requirement or not until today- I spoke with the director of the whole operation for 2 1/2 hours over coffee this afternoon and I'm loving it- feeling like a revolutionary again- I may come from a rather small state but we are known for helping to change the tide- as long as I'm here I might as well take advantage of my slightly amplified voice if you know what I mean....... I was actually interviewed by some dude (who was a bit of a dink, really) from USA Today about an Impeach rally I coordinated years ago- no matter that it was small- because it really is a small world around here- the dink took the statistics I gave him about my state and the Bush regime and didn't quote me- although he asked me in the interview if he could several times- he basically used me as a reference without referencing me.
Anyhow- Empowerment! Power to the people! Viva la revolucion!
Suddenly the mundane takes on a whole new face- laundry is folded, beds are made- ORGANIZATION! Work, work, work! Later ladies....... Hopefully I'll be able to limit my online time a little more here (it's for a good cause- okay, so I'm excited- I'll probably freak out and doubt myself at some point and come crying back to the forum) But for now.....
Ain't holding nothing back- this is actually "Brick House" but I always hear the lyrics as Break....Out.
