Skittles Drinking Water

Our cat Skittles has started the annoying habit of drinking out of any glass he sees. We indulged this behavior because at first it was funny but now he acts all snotty about drinking out of his bowl LOL. He hunches his shoulders up and sticks his nose in the air when we fill the water bowl up Smile

He thinks he's human and is

He thinks he's human and is insulted by having to drink out of a bowl. Seriously. Smile What if you give him a glass of water where his bowl was? Good conversation starter for those who notice it, if nothing else. Smile

He thinks he's a dog

He actually acts like he thinks he's a dog...he acts more doglike than anything. He is a very unusual cat in many respects. We tried the glass where his bowl is and/or on tables and counter tops, but he kept knocking them over and spilling water everywhere, boo hiss. I was getting wet sock feet all the time just like when my kids were small LOL Puzzled

he is!

Skittles is very lucky! how we got him - you're going to love this - My daughter was going to her favorite coffee shop one night after she first got her car. So she had to go in the back way, because the parking lot is in the back. She and her friends were going in and she heard a tiny mewing sound, nobody else heard it. But she insisted so they looked around, and there was Skittles! a tiny kitten that was caught in the fence. This was getting on Spring so it was still real cold here. She bought him home, after asking around and putting up flyers in and around the coffee shop. Nobody ever called, so we kept him.

We suspect he was abandoned and deliberately put in the fence, because he had some developmental issues and very little cat reflexes. for example, if he jumped off a counter, he would fall right on his head. or when I was using the stove, when I took whatever cooking out of the stove, he would jump right on the lowered door and burn his feet pads! No sense at all, I had to keep him out of the kitchen when I was cooking. He's very emotional for a cat, he actually cries, just like a person when he is sad or doesn't get his way. I didn't even know cats could cry, I've never seen anything like it. The vet said whoever had him before probably put him in a microwave for a few seconds or something like that because he has seen neurological damage similar to Skittles' before in other abused animals. He's come a long way since then though.

We love him a lot, he treats us all individually like we are his favorite person in the world and he is so sweet and affectionate, you can't help but fall in love with him. There is this thing he does, it's so cute! he'll put a paw on your shoulder and mew at you, just like he's talking, nodding his head and stuff Smile

Ours prefer the glass too

Or strait out of the tap if possible, I've got one that won't leave me alone while i'm brushing my teeth. She wants that water right out of the spiggot- that's the REALLY FRESH stuff.

right right

yah I figured he likes the water fresh and cold, so I would fill his bowl right in front of him and give it to him. Nope! he turns up his nose. and he will take stale water in a glass also, like say I only drank half a glass and then set it aside. Skittles will drink that hours later before he will drink fresh water in his bowl.

Solution!

I just fill up a glass and set it in the sink. That way he can drink to his heart's content and if he knocks over the glass, no worries Smile
