What are you doing for yourself mama?If I had a few more hours in the day, would it be easier to find time for myself or would that time be filled with more laundry and whatnot? This down time in the afternoon (bigs at school, littles napping) is good for me. I'm sipping tea and messing around on the computer. But I'm fighting off a headache right now, AGAIN, and am reminded that I really need to get to the chiropractor. I have not been in ages. I'm hoping he can knock these headaches right out of me. But oh to find the time to take care of myself...pffft....maybe if I put it out here in on the interweb I'll actually get around to scheduling it. I double dog dare myself to schedule a chiropractor's appointment AND an appointment at my sister's salon before xmas. Can it be done?

the temptation of laundry
I get up early every day to write first thing for 30-45 minutes, then I exercise for 30 minutes. that way both are done and out of the way; my work and my fitness. But the best thing I am doing for me now is taking myself out on a weekly Artist's date, an idea I got from the Artist's Way book. for years I have taken each of my kids out for a special day just for them each month, and Mercury Man and I have our special weekly date, but it never occurred to me to nurture myself like that. The idea is to take yourself out to a place or activity that is nurturing of your art, be it writing, acting, painting, sculpting, singing, playing an instrument, whatever. I usually go to a coffee shop, order a large decaff coffee, and sit and write. Sometimes I talk to other people. Sometimes I just sit. it's unblocked me from some work I've been struggling to finish, some short stories and stuff. I haven't given myself a time limit but usually about an hour, then I'm ready to go.

Wishing you some time and health...have you tried taking magnesium supplements? Might help the headaches and no one ever thinks of it...

I'm so bad at this!
Somehow I never seem to make time for myself. And it's not cos my husband wouldn't happily help make it happen with taking care of the child and whatnot. But somehow I don't think I'm worth it! This is terrible. Need to do this more. Putting it in the calendar is a good idea, then I can't put it off or feel guilty about it.....
i put
shit for me right in my calendar. i show that time as busy, and the Mr has to take over parenting during that time. i arbitrarily pick a time slot, and i work meals and rides and everything else around it. it's worked pretty well. of course, i have one kid. and she's 11.

i am not sure what this term "down time" is?

It can be done, it can be
It can be done, it can be done. I know, that's why I have to put it out here to make it happen.
Down time=quiet time, not running around, etc.
hmmm... interesting concept.
hmmm... interesting concept. i think i forgot what quiet time is/feels like. i might just need to create down time in my head to achieve this.
