hello, I just joined this site but I have been a long time reader of these blogs and thought I would join in! I am a single parent to my 11 year old neice and have been since she was 4 years old. I couldn't believe it when I came across this site and read blogs that reflected my life experiences; cooking, cleaning, busing it,counting the last penny whilst trying to make stuff happen.

This site has been a revelation to me as I don't have many people in my life that relate to my situation. As well as being a mama, I am a medstudent. Infact I have just finished my finals! I am planning on a career in surgery and work daily to make it happen. I got to thank you all especially Dragonchic you didn't know it but you just helped me through a hard time.

THANK YOU

Welcome- glad you found the

Welcome- glad you found the site! I've been pretty silent recently (life craziness), but was also a med student mama. I'm now a couple years out of residency in a real job, with 3 kids, but had my first daughter when I was starting 4th year of med school. It's sometimes hard to relate to other med students when they have such a different experience without kids- hopefully you can find some of that support here.
You should look at Sunflower's blog- she's also a med student with some older kids- she's a doing a research year this year, but I think she's done with first and second years and will start 3rd year next summer.

Hello

Thanks for replying! I didn't know that anyone would read this, I've never blogged before and it felt like sending something out into the ether! I should also mention that I am blogging from Liverpool , England and our system of training is a little different to yours. I am currently intercalating doing a Masters in Research in Cancer biology in between my fourth and fifth year. Its so nice to meet another doctor mama! What is your specialisation?
many thanks again for your reply!

I'm doing a fellowship

Yup, thanks for the mention, freakinchillmom. She's a pediatrician. I am planning on going into ob/gyn.

I am studying in Florida. I am a little jealous of the British system. I was actually talking about going and working for the NHS last night, believe it or not.

slight correction to

slight correction to sunflower's post- I'm a family doctor, like the GPs in the UK. Cradle to grave, jack of all trades/master of none, etc...

hi and welcome. this site

hi and welcome. this site saved me about two years ago. i don't come on as religiously as i did then, but it continues to be a great place to come for vents, support, and collaboration on ideas and our favorite: politics. Smile dragonchic did the same for me many many times. she is truly special like that. i'm a single mama to a two year old, in doing nursing school, i can't imagine med school, well done mama!

Hi amd welcome

Welcome! How great to see you posting.

I am a med student mama, too. I pop in and out. If you ever want to talk about something specific to school and I miss a post on the main board, please feel free to send me a private message, and I get an email notification.
