Post 1: The Search for a Baby-Carrier
so, i am in the market for a new baby-carrier. this being my third kid, i am aware that one carrier does not fit all so i am looking for stage appropriate carriers. i am interested in the moby wrap though it seems a bit complicated for my husband and myself. i am also wondering if it is good for newborns. i was thinking that i would start with a sling (but oh, the choices: padded, pocket, rings..) then transition to a moby wrap then pull my trusty ergo baby out of retirement. with our first son, we used the carrier by phillipe starck that was made for target. (if anyone out there has one of those and wants to part with it, please let me know, we can pay for it and the shipping!) we liked it because it was comfortable for us and our son and was very simple. i used a pocket sling and a padded sling with nico and those worked alright but not on long trips. we are pedestrians so comfort is a big deal in choosing a carrier. please let me know what you recommend.

Post 2: The Name Game
My doctor is absolutely positive this time that we are having a girl. I have a name that I like but my husband isn't sold on it yet. So, I opened up a little poll on my blog: gu-choki-pa.blogspot.com if you would like to visit and vote. The choices are:
Colette
Simone
Lucia
Celeste
Ingrid
Amelie
Gemma
Sylvia

You can also comment here if you like.
Thanks in advance.

I like Simone

best of all the choices.

carriers, I absolutely loved my snugli2. I don't even know if they are still around, the baby I used mine most with is now 20! LOL but it was great, it had this little pocket you could put a little baby in with head support and an outer pocket you could zip over them. great ventilation so they could breathe. Then when they got big, you could just put them in the big outer pocket. I carried my daughter in that until she was way past 2.

sorry I don't have any current carrier/sling info, I got nostalgic there for a bit Smile

I love the Name Gemma and if

I love the Name Gemma and if you need another for your list my fav right now is Nadine.

for the first 3-6 month before Ergo works so I like a pouch and a Mei Tai carrier like this (i make them http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=30710930
i also have fleece pouch slings - two of them in floral prints.
I love the way you can nurse and wrap baby close with a Mei Tai and still have the structure for a floppy baby.

I need a sling too!

Baby #2 is on the way and I never used a sling with my first one but now I'm thinking I'd like to have my hands free. Thoughts, mamas?

As for names, I like Celeste quite a bit. Also Sylvia. I think we're going with Phoebe.

My friend has a Hotsling,

My friend has a Hotsling, http://www.hotslings.com/baby_slings/everyday_collection/indian_summer . She's used the crap out of hers, from birth and still going strong, almost a year old. I made one the same style and used it with my 2 year old, carrying on my hip. I really liked it, it was pretty comfy and my kid liked it fine cause it was just as if I was carrying him on my hip without the sling. It's just so simple too, you just slip it over your head and put them in the pouch part, no straps or rings to worry about. Plus they have some kickass fabric patterns Smile Also, I'd check on Etsy, they have a fabulous baby sling selection, many of them the same construction as the Hotsling. And many much cheaper!

I think Colette is nice. Also Lucia, but how would you pronounce it? Like, Lu-see-ah, or Lu-sha? I like the latter I think. In fact, the more I say it the more I really like it!

one vote here for the mobi

i used the mobi when DD was really little and then transitioned to the ergo - both of which i loved. the mobi is super great for tiny ones too little for the ergo that just want to snuggle and nurse and sleep tucked away from the rush of the outside world, and you can reconfingure how you wrap them as they get bigger and want to look out at the world around. it does take a couple of times to figure out how wrap, but once you get it down, it's pretty fast and easy (it comes with a detailed instruction booklet with step by step color pics - even i figured it out). biggest b/t the mobi & the sling is that the weight is evenly distributed over both shoulders and your hips, so one of your shoulders doesn't start to kill after a while. also super easy to nurse in the mobi (and discrete - no need for additional blanket/hooter hider). if i weren't expecting #2 i'd send you mine, but it's worth the investment (as is the ergo, as you know).

as for names, i like amelie, though simone (my DD's middle name) is a favorite as well. good luck.

Really love my Kangaroo

Really love my Kangaroo Corner pouch sling- super easy and the babes have loved it. I just got a second one when Lily was born because the fleece one was too hot for the summer time- they have a really stretchy thinner fabric one, now, which has worked great for us. My husband didn't like it when we used it with Nolen, but now that he's SAHD, and she loves it, he got used to it in about 2 days, and swears by it.

Sorry I didn't read til just now...

Slings...I used a Moby right at the beginning. But my husband did not like it (he felt like he was suffocating Thalia in there) and I found it kinda annoying to wrap. A friend of mine suggested a Baby Buddha as her favorite- pricey but really soft (mine is bamboo) and feels like a Moby in terms of security and snugglyness and taking the weight off of your back and redistributing it to your hips. I still have mine somewhere, we are done with it and I can send it to you, if you'd like. Check out http://www.babybuddha.ca/ Used this a lot walking all over Greece- we walk a lot at home too.

I also loved my Kangaroo Korner pouch for easy in and out around the house. Nice fleece for the winter when I used it most. Extra benefit for me was that they are made by a mom local to me.

These days we are 100% Ergo family, now that Thalia is 11 months old. It's been that way for the past 5 months or so. So easy! Love the back carry. But you know the Ergo love already!

I love your name choices...

Simone, Amelie, and Celeste might be my favorites...they conjure up a romantic French kind of feeling for me. Sylvia is also great, but I am partial to Greek names anyway...

Thanks everyone!

I do really appreciate your input. I didn't know about baby buddha or kangaroo korner. I will definitely look further into it. If all else fails, I can make another one like I did with Nico. Or I might make a mei tai (sp?). It depends on my energy levels. I finally got around to cutting out the squares for her quilt today (as well as finishing my oldest son's lunch kit that he's been begging many months for).
As for the names, I think it has been decided. Since I opened the name game to everyone, my husband finally got the hint and contributed his opinion. But I will wait until it is official to share. Smile I will say that I was leaning towards Celeste Amelie but he vetoed it. I do get a heavier vote than he does but I am willing to relent as I think it is really good for a father to have a voice in naming his daughter.
Anyway, thanks again! I really appreciate your suggestions. Take care.

She has Moby style wraps but a little cheaper depending on if you want organic or bamboo. Very nice and helpful. I just bought one. I haven't tried it yet but she says it will work for the twins. Smile
Good luck on the naming. It's so hard, I think.
