A teacher crossed a line with my kid.
So I get a call from my kid's principal that a substitute teacher called my kid a leprechaun and pulled out a knife.
She said that the police had been there and that DCS had been called, and the whole class had filled out some paper work on the incident.
I thought it was strange that by the time I found out about it, the whole thing was over and done.
I talked with Phoenix (my kid) and he didn't seem too upset about it, and asked me if we were gonna do anything fun this afternoon. No one seems really clear on the details though. I don't know if the knife was pulled "on him" or if it was just whipped out or what--although neither scenario is apropos in any way.
Kinda weird though, weird stuff like this follows my kid around.

Oh my god. Did you tell the media?
Did you go down there?? That is insane, did they fire the sub? Oh it would be hard to hold back the rage on that one!
I would assume he is arrested and the are doing a psych workup on him. Sounds like a psychotic break to me.

um, it is wholly unacceptable that the principal waited to tell you last. totally, wholly unacceptable and it stinks of mitigating liability. can you talk to the police, get a copy of the report? if this were my kid, i would not leave it at this.
.
i'm sorry, this is such an unsettling thing to hear. leprechaun???? what the hell? did the teacher flip out and go nuts, what happened?
.
ETA: i wouldn't leave this at a phone call either, i would pick up my child, NOW. i'd get his side of the story, with no one around there influencing him. NOW. there may be nothing more to this than what they're telling you but they've made it clear that you can't take their word on that. school officials will blow off stuff nonchalantly as a way of easing parents nerves and diverting attention. they did that in the district where i used to live about gunshots.
come out
are you kidding me? i would've been up there kicking some fuckn ass what the hell? If a kid did that they would be arrested and not allowed to go to school for the remainder of the year if at all again. Teachers are allowed to bring weapons on school grounds? I find that hard to believe. My girl is starting kindergarten and has to have a clear or mesh backnack to make sure all contents are visible. this is insane.

That is so so weird! So, he called your kid a leprechaun, took out a knife, sharpened a pencil? That doesn't make any sense at all! This guy is whackity-whack! I hope he's getting some help, and I'm glad you're kid is alright.

i'm glad your kid's alright. this is the last thing a mother wants to hear about her kid's school. what grade is he in? i would be asking about his history and how he was vetted for his job. i would get his first and last name and address TODAY from the school and refuse to leave school grounds until i got it, so i could do a background search. i would file charges against the person myself, not take the school's word for it that they did it, they could be lying. i would call the police department and get all the information from them..

soo not funny but the way you said that made me laugh

it's totally cool that your kid can handle that kind of stuff, i think it's the knife thing that has us kind of freaking out. your kid is awesome that he was able to blow it off for the most part though truely.

if they understand when someone is fucked up but don't know how or why or what could happen, it can make a kid more scared. so it's good that your kid is taking it in stride. as long as the adults don't over (or under) react, because the kids will pick up on that. a leprechaun... good lord.

Shit has been so crazy with my kid and school... If, three years ago, someone tried to tell me 1/4 of our shit was happening with their kid I would have called them a liar.
God, I'm grinding my teeth again just thinking about it all! If I hadn't witnessed it all myself I would have believed any of it was possible.
We decided to just homeschool him. It's a lot of work but I know he's safe and nobody is abusing my kid.
what a fucked up thing to have happen. i'm crazy happy to hear nobody was hurt, but i'm so sorry your son and the other kids had to witness this. it sounds like this guy had some kind of breakdown...i hope he's kept far, far away from ALL children from now on, and that the school looks into why the hell this happened. it sounds like they're really afraid of either media attention or lawsuits (or both) but they're out of their frigging minds if they think it's acceptable to just casually call a kid's parents waaaay after an incident like that occurs and play it off like it's nothing.
i'm glad phoenix is dealing with it well, but maybe it wouldn't be the worst idea to talk him about it soon-- like in a few days or something??-- to make sure that he doesn't start feeling freaked out about it after the fact, like a delayed reaction. i'm sure you have it all covered but i was just wondering if this is the kind of thing that a kid his age might be more upset about after it's sunk in??
love and hugs to you guys...

I know, the only people that were there when it happened were his classmates, and everyone is being really matter of fact about it--like this kind of thing happens all the time.
I didn't want to grill my kid over the phone, and I didn't pick up on anything weird in his voice, like anxiety or something.
