GAH! so frigging excited!! (and small update...)
my best friend jill (the one who got married last may) was due last monday with her first baby....her doctor administered prostaglandins to her cervix this morning and now she's having some pretty strong contractions about ten minutes apart. she's about to take a bath then play some mario kart with her husband and see where the day takes them, and she's going to check back with me at 8 to let me know how it's going. i'm so excited and weepy and proud right now....her birthing journey is beginning!
ETA: poor jilly...the contractions stopped by last night and she had to go back in for more prostaglandins this morning. although they seem to have started the contractions up again a bit, she's back at home again playing the waiting game. i just talked to her and she said the contractions are about 4-5 minutes apart but very mild. i told her to walk and stay active as much as she can and hopefully by the morning things will pick up a bit. she's so frustrated right now; it looks like this little girl is already stubborn as hell and definitely has a mind of her own. i'm sending her some hardcore birthing vibes right now....i love you, my jilly, and i hope you're a mama very soon!

Wow, sending vibes.
I remember I had this labour-ade during (looong) labor with squeezed lemons and some other stuff in it, helped keep me off an IV... and gave me some strength to keep going...
you can find it on the web, just 1 idea I was SOOOO glad some other mama shared with me before.
Wishing her the best
A very close friend of mine and his wife just had a baby. I was at the birth and the postpartum and have helped out since. It has been wonderful wonderful.
Vibes to your friend. I hope things happen for her in a good way. Cervices can be stubborn little beeches.

I am sure she has had a few. I am glad they are smart enough to not do a full induction if her cervix isn't softening. Those are pretty doomed to fail. Sending her softening vibes today.

Poor jill went in AGAIN this morning to have some more stuff done to encourage the process to start but there's still nothing...just mild, irregular contractions but no dilation yet. Nada. They actually pitted her a little this morning but after a few hours they saw no change in her progress and didn't want to force things "too much" so they discharged her again. She's at home again now trying to get some rest but she's in good spirits and is reminding herself that when it's time, REALLY time, everything wil happen the way it's supposed to.
Today's day 11 of being "late" and day 4 of prostaglandins and pitocin and "vigorous exams" and monitoring and waiting...the funny thing about babies, though, is it's really no skin off their back if they decide to hang out in there for awhile and cause a ruckus, is it? Little buggers...
I kind of wish they'd have just left her alone this week because obviously shit's just not ready, you know? But I'm no doctor so I'll shut up now.
