Yes I said licks. She licks when she is nervous about talking to a stranger, usually our hands, but if we are not close enough her hands. Or her shoulder. Weirdest thing ever. I haven't had another kid do this. Or if she hears something she doesn't like. Lick lick lick. Sometimes if we are at home and she gets in trouble she will throw herself down and start licking the floor. This is super embarrassing because we have to explain why our kid is licking herself like a dog. Well sir she licks when she is nervous! It is hard to hold back laughter cause really it is not a joke. I need her to stop, but I know it is just a phase right? DH were having this conversation in bed last night. What if she doesn't stop and she is an adult applying for a job and keeps having to stop to lick her shoulder cause she is nervous!! Ha Could you imagine!? Help her stop licking, ladies!!!

maybe try...telling her to stop?

I'm a fairly permissive parent but I'm not averse to telling my kids to stop doing something. My youngest used to suck on his fingers, and we had to tell him to cut it out because he would then touch you with his hands. as a parent this is no biggie because you get used to their stickiness, to their wet or grubby hands and what-not, and in pre-school other kids don't seem to mind/notice this. But by kindergarten, other kids are like OH NO that's nasty LOL. So we had to tell him to cut it out, and explain why it's socially off-putting. He stopped within a week and was not traumatized or anything. So maybe just try telling her to stop it and why licking folks, the floor, etc. is socially off-putting to most people.

trust me

We have!!! Oh boy have we. We have tried talking about feelings, and being frustrated, telling her to downright stop it, and ignoring it!!! I don't like it one bit. And she is two. So I don't know if it is just a toddler thing to her or what.

oh so she's a wee one

I don't know why I thought she was older, like 5 or 6! yah two's are really grubby in this way and you really can't reason with them. she will grow out of it!

E licks sometimes.

S did too. We made the rule licking is for ice cream & lollies. They both make an annoying sound & stick their tongue out. I hate it. I feel ya.
