Sick 3 year old
Swollen Lymph node for 4 months.
Now accompanied by:
(in the last four days)
Fever
Sore Throat
Stomach ache
Ear pain on side swollen lymph side
Diarrhea
Restlessness
irritability
Weepiness
wanting to lay in bed for hours without sleeping.
Lack of Appetite.
Crying uncontrollably.
She's had the swollen lymph since january, it got bigger last month then we took her to a specialist and he did a blood test, white cell count came back in normal ranger, no evidence of current infection. Lymph got smaller again but was still swollen. We went on vacation to Holland to see family and all of us got super sick, Dee barely got ill, then we came back and about a day after we got home this above symptoms started (we got abck on Sunday).
I don't know what to do so I'm taking her to urgent care, any info would be greatly appreciated.

My 3yo son gets them all the time and we never know that's what it is until the fever starts. It would account for everything except the diarrhea and stomach pain, altho' I will say we had a nasty virus 2 weeks ago that began with vomiting and diarrhea and ended up as an ear infection 4 days later. (I suspect the congestion from said virus just pools in his ears and the yuck develops). I'm a big fan of antibiotics- I know all here are not but they've saved my son quite a bit. Hope the urgent care prescribes you something for relief. We got some nice ear drops for the first time that are for symptoms only-- they numb the ear canal and hoo-ee, he LOVED them! Suddenly he could lift his head and sleep and eat (altho' still not much) without whining. Good luck.
Hard to say without seeing her- most likely viral (last 4 day symptoms), but could be strep, mono, lymph node/tonsil abscess... Is the lymph node painful? Is it getting bigger?
I hope she's feeling better soon! Good luck at urgent care.
We had a monster virus earlier this winter (after chicken pox and pin worms but before the headlice--what a fab winter, eh?) and the symptoms were:
sore throat, headache, stomach pain, fever that was mid to high range (103-104) for up to 7 days, general body pain and malaise, no appetite...
Sounds like what you've got with D. I'm thinking we actually had some strain of influenza but I never really took my kids to the doc with it while it was active to get it diagnosed formally.
good luck
hope she gets better soon. my girls were sick in milwaukee for like 2 months when i got them here to Tn better in 3 weeks. no advice but i'm sorry mama.

Lunar, this sounds really stressful! Poor Dee, I hope she's ok and that she starts to feel better really soon. I have no idea what is going on specifically - but I remember writing about lymph stagnation a few months ago. It's more of a long-term systemic issue, and it's certainly didn't make her sick right now, but a sluggish lymph system could make her more prone to getting sick, and for a longer amount of time. So I still think it's worth working in the lymph system/lymph node issue . ..
Did you ever try the Aryudevic lymph herb Manjistha (Rubia cordifolia)? It won't hurt. Dee can take ~400 mg 2X a day. You can also try Ashwaganda (an adaptogenic stress-reliever - for all of you). For either one, break open the pill capsule and mix the powder in a 1/2 tsp of honey. These herbs are totally safe and gentle for all ages, and they almost always help. It can take up to three weeks of daily dosing to see a difference though.
I'll be thinking of you, keep us posted . . .
a nasty virus & with the travel just got worse or better yet another jumped on board. How high is her fever?

Who would I go to about this? I tried a chinese medicine/acupuncturist but didn't like him much (too western for me), might try another one near my job that looks a little more eastern traditional. I have some Ashwaganda, will start dosing us all tonight. Do you have a source online for the Manjistha (Rubia cordifolia) that you trust? I'll see if I can get it at the co-op too but that takes awhile.
Thanks for all of your help. I wish we were closer.
