Really its a one and a half week wait... so wait, wait, wait we are.
and my mom is really excited!

Also, are there any other mamas here who don't/didn't have health insurance? I've always had insurance up until December when I had to transfer off of my NY insurance.... I thought I found a great plan and then got, you got it, DECLINED! for gluten intolerance and reoccurring yeast infections. Anyhow, I'm now currently without. I'm pretty sure that if I do get health insurance my premium will be VERY high . So I'm in a bind: Paying out of pocket lets me see the MD's, CNM, ND of my choosing and I've heard that hospitals will usually come up with a plan for folks who are uninsured. But if there are more complications beyond a C section, well, I could loose ALL my savings and possibly owe money. Any thoughts? ideas? sadly I'm too "rich" to qualify for any help.

thanks ladies

Are you interested in seeing a midwife?

They tend to be considerably less expensive than hospital births. I was high risk so I couldn't go to one; but I've only heard great things from friends who did.

I would prefer to have a midwife and a home birth or birth center birth. I can totally afford to just pay for one out of pocket.... but its more for the things that I can't plan for, like an emergency that having insurance is good for.

I have time on my side and am doing lots of research but SHEESH!! insurance is just so f'in complicated and stressful!

thanks for you thoughts

For me it's just the opposite

Social security pays all of my health care, well I have to pay for drugs but they are pretty cheap as long as the doctor prescribes them and a generic is available. So no matter what happened having my baby at a hospital would be free.
i would rather have a baby at home, but social security doesn't cover that so I would have to pay a 1000 euros out of pocket, which i don't see being remotely possible any time soon. (maybe that's what dream baby is waiting for- the chance to be born at home?) THe good news is that even if homebirth led to complications and i had to go to hospital in the end everything there would be totally covered.
I think the american health care system sucks and i am really sorry that you have to deal with that complication and headache. That's one of the reasons i got the f out of dodge.
wwwpjhd? What would pj harvey do?

Right there with ya

I was kicked to the curb for HPV. I'm surprised to hear that gluten intolerance is a red flag. Yipes. Almost thought that since I've had two clear paps, that maybe I'd get back into the land of the not-too-risky. Of course not! What a pipe dream!

Anyway. You can try to get some major medical coverage from Blue Cross Blue Shield. I think they take pretty much everybody, and if you keep your deductible high and stick with catastrophic coverage it should be cheaper.

For what it is worth, Blue

For what it is worth, Blue Cross totally rejected me! (for ulcerative colitis) Fortunately, my state has insurance for those who get rejected, no limit on how much $ you make -- nothing similar where you are???? But the Blue Cross thing probably varies by state, so it's worth a try.

Insurance is such a freaking racket it makes me want to scream!!!
