For the past few weeks I've been cheerleading my sister overtime. I suggested that she tell her boss that she would like to meet with him ever Friday for 20 minutes to go over the week and to hear from him what she could do better and what priorities he had for the coming week. My father had suggested that she keep a detailed record of everything she was doing everyday. Both of us made these suggestions thinking that she was going to be fired and that these projects would be a good defense when she tried to get unemployment. But instead they helped her save her job.
For the last three weeks my sister has been coming in early and leaving late. She's cleared out her backlog and has even put new innovations in place. She's ahead of the curve now and sure she's doing everything right.
When my sister went in for her review on Tuesday both the boss and the corporate supervisor noted that in the past her work has been sub par, but now she's made a 180 degree turn around. At that point she was able to dispute some of the critiques in her review, which they accepted! When she presented events schedules done through May and told them about her record keeping, they were so impressed they gave her a RAISE! How about that!
Anyway, I'm both relieved and proud. This was just the boost of confidence my sister needed. Way to go Little Sister!

sometimes
in a job situation, standing up for yourself even when you think it's a lost cause anyway, turns people around. a lot of people really don't stand up for themselves, even when they could. i've only just learned to do it, i used to just accept criticism, even when i disagreed with it, and internalized it as an insult. a lot of supervisors are clearly unapproachable in that way, but a lot of them do concede when you present your case.
so, this is good news. sounds like your sister is learning a few very valuable skills.
come out
When I was your age, I was already trying to kill my second husband and make it look like bears did it.
