Hi Mamas,

Thanks so much for your kind words. Now I'd love your feedback on YASMIN birth control. The scoop:

Well part 1 is the falling in love, part 2 (for me cuz I haven't slept w/ any of the men around in 4 years because I don't want to sleep w/ anyone I'm not i nlove with) is the birth control question. So he is far away, recently separated. Coming to see me for a week on Wedn! I feel this man is really the right stuff to work on a partnership with. We will see. For now I am off the hook wanting/loving him. We have not made love yet. THe hours are ticking.

SOOO w/ this in mind I got tested, he did, all good, so I went to fill the "Yasmin" prescription the doc had given me for PMS symptoms (not really for bc per se) awhile back. I took a low dose pill some years ago (Loestrin 35 I think) and did fine on it. I have also used a diaphagm a lot of my life w/ success, though got tired at one pt w/ UTIs and lack of spontaneity. I've probably only take the pill 5-6 years total of my life (I'm 45...you young-uns). Anyhow, I thought well I have the scrip so i'll just fill it. UGH. AFter 3 days my breasts were solid and hurting, NAUSEA trying not to wretch all morning and D, and felt like my anxiety spiked. Now I have a touchy stomach w/ stress so I thought maybe it was just my touchy IBS-ish stomach acting up. BUt after a couple days it was SO like morning sickness. AWFUL. I have been off now for 2 days after the 5 on. Anyone know when things might improve? Iwas still very nauseous and swollen and bloated this a.m. UGH. I want these hormones OUT OUT OUT esp before wedn when he arrives. I feel yuck.

Thanks mamas.

Love to the great mamas.....

no idea.

the general rule is that any time you start a bc pill, the first month is full of symptoms, which gradually improve over time. (or, you get used to them, imo)common sense tells me that only taking it five days means it would only take five days to metabolize and get the shit out of you, give or take.

but i doubt anyone would even know. this is one of those questions i could picture asking a doctor and having them baffled that anyone would even ask. not that it's not a good question, i just think they're trained to answer several questions the manufacturer puts on a list for them, with the answers they're supposed to give. and since birth control manufacturers don't acknowledge that the pills have lasting symptoms, i doubt this question is on that list.

in any event, i bet you'll at least be well enough for the horizontal tango by wednesday. if not, that's what wine is for.

all i have

is that due to dysmennorhea, i stay on the pill almost all the time, and i have a love affair with loestrin fe 24 because it carries almost no side effects for me at ALL, and completely takes the blood away. which i love. i tried a few, believe me, which made me feel like you are describing, and hated it. i think there is one out there that can work for just about anybody though, if you have the wherewithal to wade through the ones that don't!
and have a killer time with your new man, can't wait to hear about it later!

Yasmin was my pill of choice

Yasmin was my pill of choice before I went natural. I tried out four of them from age 17-26 and this was the one I stuck with the longest. For about four years I was on it. With all the other ones that came before: Loestrin, OrthoTricyclin, and the other one's name I can't remember... I had bad symptoms. Weight gain, bitchiness from hell, etc etc. Didn't notice symptoms with Yasmin but like M.F. said, perhaps I just learned to live with it. My ex told me when I went off of Yasmin when I wanted to do natural my personality changed. But that's also when I started my yoga training so I kind of switched gears in a lot of ways anyway mentally.

I would try it again and push through the yuckiness and see? As much as I promote no-pill safe sex, I myself think if and when I ever have sex again it will be when I can get myself back on the pill. I know too many people who have gotten pregnant on natural method and condom. Not worth the risk. I totally commend you for getting tested and going for it! Hope it works out well you feel good and NOT yucky and get your groove on! XOXO keep us posted...
