Talking seriously about pink hair.
Tell me how to do it right. Will I be screwed on the grow-out? What will the maintenance require? I'm thinking a few strips of brightness, in celebration of quitting my 'day job', and of turning 30. I think I can pull it off with my clients, as long as it's done very stylishly. Tips, please!

so as you grow it out, you will have a bleached spot growing out. that's pretty much the only drawback. those iridescent colors fade so fast, it won't be pink for long. once you decide not to have it anymore, it will just be a light spot in your hair. and you can even take that light spot and use other colors on it to blend it in.
have fun!

You wont ruin your hair...
I had mine done at the Paul Mitchell hair school down the street. I love them! They bleached out big chunks and then dyed them hot pink (we also did purple later). The color lasted 2-3 weeks, and no one in my corporate (bank of america) job minded, even my boss's boss. I loved it! I got frustrated coloring then recoloring (I'm cheap as hell), so I dyed my hair all over with a box of hair dye, and the bleached out chunks took the color, just 3 or 4 shades lighter than the rest of my hair (instant highlights!!).
Yeh, big chunks of bleached bits, then the pink is a semi-permanent over that. I really love the pinks--they fade out to cotton-candy pink. The blues and purples tend to end up fading out into an ugly greenish color. I run my own business as well, and I think I end up attracting clients who like or are okay with a slightly wacky look, and it ends up being a good fit. Plus, in these troubling times. we need some bright colors!

and it should be all good. remember you can always dye it back your natural color as long as you don't bleach so much it's fried. I only did that once in years and years of dying my hair (& I Have really fine, easily damaged hair if that's any reassurance. It's hard to do) Depending on how light your hair is, get the super bleach. I have dark brown hair naturally so I have to get the hard core bleach & leave it in over an hour to get it light enough for the pink to show.
I used man*c pan*c hot hot pink. MP washes out pretty fast, there's some other kinds with better staying power but I dunno it's what I used when I was a teenager you know?

it's all throughout. I did the hair in a ponytail cut it & layer thing (all about the home haircuts) so I dyed a few different sections. Some are really short, some underneath more. It's hard not to get the bleach on other sections of your hair so it helps to have someone do the back for you
I'm loving your pink. Really loving it.
You look great! I feel really tempted to go there, but the kids i teach would give me hell. They always tell me how terrible i look when i just cut my hair.

and then post pics so we can all "oooh & Ahhhh". I'm excited for you.
You quit waitressing? What post did I not read to miss that?! Rock on. Must feel pretty confident about the state of things with your beau, then? Not really my business, but it came to mind.
I wish I had a job where I could dye my hair in really fun ways. If I did anything more than some subtle redlights they'd can me, period. Hell, they're looking for an excuse, anyway.

Yesterday, I got it done. It hurt more than I expected to get it done, and it hurts more now than I expected, but I'm sure it'll be happy in a couple of weeks. Meanwhile, I can't wear a bra for a week! That'll make work interesting...I think I can get by with my nursing tanks & nursing bras I still have around, or just wear blazers so folks can't see that I'm free...
I hope to get a photo up in a week or two when it's not so red. I really like it, although it's simpler than I was "hoping" for when I went in, but really I think it's quite awesome.

I realize pink is hard to get out. I love pink. Personality and how you age decides if you look ridiculous. I already warned my man that when I'm old and have white hair there'l be pink in there too!!
