Sewing Mamas: What Working On? PICS
I'm currently working on a new throw for my couch, it's made out of denim from old jeans. I'm about done with it, will post a pic when finished. Some new kitchen stuff; some potholders and a new apron. A fleece skirt, I'm almost done with it too. It's pinned together and everything, just need to finish sewing it. I'm doing it in bits and pieces of time:
I got a few bags I need to finish up, but mostly this month I want to get started on the kids' Christmas quilts. Last year's was a rush! and they weren't quite right. I'm taking my time this year ^_^
What are you working on?
oh yah, I-bop is moving out (she'll be 20 in May and is miss grown folk, you don't even know) and I'm going to turn her room into my sewing/office room! excitement!! and she's about to launch her own designer/fashion site with her portfolio and stuff for college on it. I'm so proud of her, she is so talented. This is my fashion blog:

Updated to add pic of the throw, I finished it! I wanted a new blue throw for our couch, decided to make one out of some denim material I had. I made the pillows a while back too, the 2 black ones are also upcycled denim (old jeans).

I'm totally a sewing beginner, but I'm going to make a skirt and top for my daughters new doll. We found her [the doll] at the thrift store and she's soft and squishy and in need of pretty things to wear!
That, and beanbags. We make a lot of bean bags for tossing games. Easy, and fun to make! Plus Paige [my kid] can "help"
I'm working on a custom order right now, a laptop cover for a mini laptop. Right now I'm still doing the embroidery for the front, just have the shell all pinned up.
I'm also trying my hand at making those super cute reusable snack bags. I've done three so far, got another three pinned up. Although now I've realized that I did not do my proper research before buying the liner and I don't think I'm going to be able to use it. Now I have all this stuff with nothing to do with it. At least it was only like $5, but still. Ugh.
Here are my most recent creations-

That was made with a free embroidery pattern from Andrea Zuill. I really want to stitch her March free pattern too.
I made this cross stitch for my sister. Its based on the Twilight Saga, which makes me rant but she loves.

and I am working on an embroidery of a spider web in tree branches from a vintage pattern and creating a birthday shirt for my DS (he's a preschooler, and I make him a shirt every year with his age on it).
Future sewing plans include some more cloth shopping bags, shorts for my DS for summer and maybe a sunhat for him too. I had bad luck making him sunhats last year, they were all too big or too small to stay on properly.
Mercury, do you make full-size quilts or lap quilts? Every year? I have a doll size top pieced together downstairs for a birthday gift. Do you hand bind? I made this quilt for a baby gift but did the binding by machine as I wasn't sure that hand binding would hold up in the wash machine. DS had a baby quilt with hand binding and the stuffing is coming out on the edges.

Those circles were a pain and I am a very inexperienced quilter, but I think the embroidery makes up for the wonky circles.
Oh my gosh, the quilt is the cutest, sweetest thing...wow. Wonky circles make it even cuter!
I am just learning to sew, but I've realized I hardly have a need for it...I want to make my own tops and such so they FIT me right, but what can I do in the meanwhile that isn't totally useless for me...I don't need more pot-holders...hmm...might just have to do some more research.

I've got several pairs of pants sitting on my table, waiting to be finished. Mostly for DS, but a couple pairs for me too. It's the fiddly details mostly, the hemming, the attaching of the waistband, the insertion of elastic; that stops my progress. Some afternoon soon I'll buckle down and finish it all!
but I spent time on your repurposing blog last night, and now I am all inspired... I have a beautiful 1970's era sewing machine, I need to pull it out and learn how to use it!
Your stuff (everyone!) is awesome, i am truly inspired@!
I just finished a wrap around skirt made out of two t-shirts in this beautiful teal colour. I cut the neck and arms off the two shirts and then turned each shirt into two pieces of fabric tapering up to the top. Then I sewed them all together so they made one long piece of fabric that I attached a long strip of contrasting green t shirt material to as a tie. It looks pretty good and funky and imperfect.
Next project is to make more rag dolls, both boy and girl for our next barter sale. I also wanted to try some sock monkeys for the barter sale and make some accessories for them(most notable black bat wings a la wizard of Oz).
Oh, and I have to patch a pair of Devon's pants and I want to make a waterproof and funky cloth pad wallet with space3s for both soiled and clean pads.
Especially considering that i haven't hemmed anything yet. I feel like an idiot admitting that i don't know how to hem things. I have never done a hem in my life. Like when they say that something should have a one inch hem does that mean that you fold it over twice each time a half inch for a total of one inch shorter? Or do you fold over one inch twice? I just know they'll come out wonky.
Whining aside, I have a bunch of stuff cut that i still haven't gotten into yet. A table cloth and some placemats that i want to hand embroider, but haven't yet hemmed (see what i mean). Some flats (diapers) more hems. Some fitted diapers that i am waiting for my snap pliers to do because i want to have hidden snaps.
Lately i have a massive cold so i have been knitting washcloths (i am totally a beginner so they are a small functional project that i don't feel upset if they come out wonky) because i can do that laying down.

Woah! I envy you, I would so much like to sew. But right now I can sew by hand, which is making me crazy when working on big stuff. Or I can use an old sewing machine (it came down to me by my great-grandmother). But I have difficulties in using it. And I have no time to get used to it. Sigh.

So glad you added a photo of the throw! I need one for my couch too and am looking for inspiration. Love yours!
