Hi there, rarely-heard-from techMama Lynn back again. The tech changes long needed at the Hipmama family of websites are finally finished. It should be much easier to keep up with things now, from my perspective anyway! The folks here are still working on the purty, but it looks a little better than it did! Thank you for your patience.

Amazing. Looks so with the times! Thanks for all the work you've been doing. Oh, and I'd like to second that concern about the teaser/body thing. That's my only complaint. But yeah. Cool!

Hey, and that's without changing anything at all about the template! This is just the basics. I might yet go in and tweak colors and stuff, but we'll see. So if things look different several different times over the weekend, I'm playing.

Sure! I'm looking for stuff that will match a potential new site image, I don't think purple will be it, but then I don't have the image yet either!

Wow, it's shockingly different yet quite nice. I think I like it! Great job, thanks!
a note:
i'm having some trouble getting used to this "teaser" vs "body" setup here. when you click on a post, you only see the body, but often the post starts in the "teaser" and it's weird as a reader when you're reading and pertinent information is missing, and weird as a writer, trying to decide what to put in which box and whether to repeat one self.

Yeah, I hear you. I need
Yeah, I hear you. I need Lynn's help to see if we can't get the teaser part removed. It's a content management function meant for publication situations rather than a simple text entry function... My recommendation for now is to not use the teaser at all. Text will automatically be selected from the body to fill in the teaser as necessary like before & then you can just ignore the whole thing.

is there any way
we can get some spaces back?
i'm finding it really hard to read the threads now that there's no space between the id stamp and the text (i.e.: Submitted by motherfluffer on Thu, 03/26/2009 - 1:27pm.) as well as the text and our signatures.
plus it's hard to read the really long posts now that we can no longer put spaces between our paragraphs.
thx
The changes aren't done yet
The changes aren't done yet -- I think we're still waiting for an upgrade & then the final aesthetic tweaking stuff.
Not sure what happened with all of that, but I'll see if she can't help figure that stuff out too.
Thanks!

I looked at the config stuff
I looked at the config stuff that I can see & line breaks are supposed to be showing up as line breaks, so... I'm perplexed. Hopefully the final upgrade fixes it?

what does the 'web links' part mean, what is that function?

That's a functionality I need to kill. I've only ever seen it abused by spammers. Everyone else seems to more or less know how to include a link in a comment/body... < smile-y face >

Will the upgrade fix the search?
The search on the site only brings up really old stuff, like 2004, 2005. Will the upgrades fix this? Or if not, can you embed google search within the site?

It was a long time ago, but
It was a long time ago, but I think we disabled search because the search engine bots were overwhelming the site & causing major (*major*!!!) performance issues. I don't know if that's fixed in the upgraded drupal versions, or if that's an external issue.

changes are not 100% done
Early next week I'll be upgrading all three sites AGAIN to the most current Drupal; this was an interim step. Then we be doin' the pretty. Susan et al are getting their ideas together.

don't
Don't get used to it. This is an interim step. Once I finish the basic upgrade/consolidation of code base for all three "sisters" then I have to come back and upgrade everyone to Drupal 6.x. THEN we'll start making it purty again--maybe even purtier.

thanks for all your hard work, lynn!
man, things look SOOO different around here. it's like coming home and finding out that TLC's "while you were out" remodelled your living room...it's very cool, but it feels like you're in a strange, new place for awhile til you get used to it!! seriously, though, thanks again to you and everyone else (susan, i'm looking in your direction, here!) who tirelessly works so that we can have our hip mama. you fucking rock!
btw, i'm not sure if anyone else noticed, but links are busted...you prob already noticed, but just in case...

Yep, there is more upgrading
Yep, there is more upgrading ahead, so things are likely to shifty-shifty-shifty a little bit more over the next little while as we do that & then poke at stuff with pointy sticks to see what breaks. We'll eventually try to add a little more color & stuff back into the site too, but for right now that's time intensive for stuff that's just going to be lost in the next upgrade anyway.
Some links are totally busted & some of the images are not where they used to live, but we know & we'll get there! < smile-y face >

spacing
not sure what's going on or what the outcome will be, but I thought I would just mention that when I was posting something and tried to put spacing between my paragraphs, the final post had everything all squished together.
Thanks for the work!

yeah, smilies are borked
I just ran out of steam for tonight. I'm going to figure out what's up with that (I suspect I just have to move the images somewhere) and then they'll just start working again. Then I get to upgrade the other two sites, and then I get to come back here and start all over again with the NEXT upgrade! (We're so far behind I'm having to upgrade in steps.) whee!

PS
You're not crazy. This was the original version of this post:
Hi there, rarely-heard-from techMama Lynn here. I'm just about to start fiddling with the back end of HipMama in a fairly serious way to bring it up to current tech standards. That means things will look funky and there will be times when you won't be able to get to the site.
I'm going to leave this up without doing anything for about a half-hour while I get things ready, then this statement will be up on the "whoops, we're down for maintenance!" page. Cross your fingers, this is yucky stuff, very much akin to sticking your hand up a cow to help a birthing. But at the end we'll have a cute little calf. Or something. Um. Yeah.
So I'll be over here working.

Oh, wow
We're not in Kansas anymore Toto......
I was just hitting the comment button when the update came. I haven't had time to decide if I like it, though it seems really organized....
It's just like walking on the moon. I've been coming here for two years, since my turbulent first weeks of motherhood, and thank God I found y'all, so this just really seems odd.
Thank you so much for all your hard work. As I said, this site has helped me through tough times, and any time I've had a difficult problem. Thanks for making HM possible. Thanks for getting all these mamas together.
