Eating wheat? Good? Bad?
I'm dpoing a cleanse and wheat is one of the no no's (besides dairy, and sugar).
I understand if you have allergies, but if you don;t....... Is it that bad? I always thought whole grains were good? I totally get lowering your carb intake from simple sugars and white flour......
any thoughts?

My doctor (a naturopath) told me that he believes everyone has an intolerance to wheat, and that we're not actually supposed to eat that. He said that if your average person stopped eating wheat for a month they would notice a huge improvement in their digestive system. He thinks that most people just tolerate it and that's why they don't notice the problem, like that analogy of the frog boiling himself to death (gross).
However, I had also always heard that whole grains are really good for you, and that it's the bleached white flour that's bad for you. I say, go off it for a while and see how you feel. But I've been off of wheat for a couple years and it's really hard to avoid, so let me know if you need any tips. As for the carbs thing, I fully believe that's a bunch of hooey. Our bodies need carbs for energy. It's when you eat potato chips and sit on the couch that's a problem! Carbs from sugar are bad, yes, but carbs from bread and potatoes? We need those. Just my two cents. Anyway, hope that helps, I'm not a doctor or anything!

You may want to try spelt bread. Spelt is sort of like wheat but it's different. It has a taste and texture like day old wheat bread, which is better than a lot of the cardboard gluten free stuff out there. We eat a lot of rice noodles and rice pasta. But I wouldn't count on gluten free items to help you lose weight. They add sugar and high fructose corn syrup to a lot of it to make it taste better, and that's worse for you than wheat!
But try the spelt, and I know the rice noodles to be fairly nutritious. And I know you know to get plenty of exercise and drink lots of water. I don't mean to be a naysayer, but after being wheat-free for so long I don't know why anyone would want to do that to themselves if they didn't have to! It's so hard. But I really wish you lots of luck. I'll see if I can find some good links for you.

I agree about the bad carbs and our bodies needing the good ones. I'm so missing things like Zen Blueberry bran muffins, whole grain toast for a sanwhich.......
I also found my self eating some gluten free bread only to see the nutrition values (i.e. fiber) were as low as a slice of white wonder bread. Pus, a lot of gluten free stuff still has loads of sugar.
I'm also a tortilla lover.
Help.
After two weeks I'm not noticing a huge drop in weight, bt that may be from some of my other portion sizes of protein. I'm sick of veggies for the most part. I made buckwheat flour pankcakes and I almost gagged.
