Cool adult party ideas?
My partner and my birthday's are both coming up--I'd like to have a party, seems like a good excuse...but I don't really want to have to work at it. I'd rather not have to really clean my house. Definately not cook. We, and most of our friends have young kids, so we could either get a babysitter at the house next door for the kids, or do something family friendly. I'm trying to think of other venues besides our not really big enough house, but am not inspired by a bar. Ideas? Experiences?
Oh, and I'll be turning 30, so, epic would be alright.

A friend of mine booked a bunch of tables at a restaurant downtown (with a dance floor and bar...)for her DH's birthday. The babysitter for her kids came to the party too and as it got a bit later the babysitter took the kids home and the adults kept on. I'm not sure if everyone paid their own way or if she took care of the bill but it sounded like a good time was had by all.
When DH and I got married we rented the pavillion at the park down the street from us and had a huge potluck party that we supplied the booze and live music for. The (indoor) pavillion was pricey ($1000 bucks) but it was great because there was enough room for all of our friends and family and, because we had it on an afternoon instead of at night, it was really kid friendly (good thing since two of those kids were mine!)--no baby sitters required and balloons and games and face painting for the kids.
oh wait.... that's not what you meant.
