gratitude and a few questions.
I don't post on here much, but have been trying to make some time to introduce myself, share a few things and say hello to the mamas!
thought I'd start with some grats:
1. I just got a new postpartum doula client! feeling a little nervous for some reason, but also excited!
2. I also got a new part time job at a consignment store (yes, I do get first pick on clothes that come in). There are really lovely girls who work there and its such a nice mental break from the other work that I do.
3. really nice snuggles with my man. and waking up to his nice face in the morning.
4. sex in the shower! and in the middle of the night! and on the fly! neither of us are super horn balls (not adverse either, pretty regular humpers but its not always on our minds), however I think we've both been trying to pick up the speed a bit and its been fun.
5. an accidental amazing lunch! bacon, eggs and kimchi. who knew it was so delicious : )
6. frozen blueberries! since childhood they have been my sweet tooth savior! I also like the terrible blue teeth and lips that accompany. they remind me to have a sense of humor.
7. my really smart ND who is helping me sort out longtime health issues in such a thoughtful, kind and efficient way.
8. being invited to tag along to a birth with a super experienced birth doula. this is great! I'm not particularly interested in being a birth doula because of its "on-call" nature, but really have been wanting some experience with birth as I think it will help me as a postpartum doula. crossing my fingers that the two days I will be out of town, wont be the days she goes into labor!
9. my cute dog who has taught me to love animals and makes me go for walks when otherwise I would obsess about trying to get more work by sitting in front of the computer for way too many hours.
10. and patience. I actually have more patience with this baby making thing than I anticipated. obviously a baby was not made last month, and we are currently in our "trying" time again. currently I'm enjoying not being pregnant (I have lots of energy these days and am getting lots done), trying to get pregnant (fun sex) and the knowledge that I most likely will eventually get and be pregnant (yay. I cant wait to be a mama)
two questions:
1. what were the most helpful tips, tools and comments after your babe(
were born?
2. anyone have a great gluten free/dairy free enchilada sauce recipe?
amazing mamas on here. I love reading your posts and getting to know you!

Congrats on the pp doula client. I just finished my doula training with DONA and am now working on my certification... I can't wait until I get my first client... I am so jealous
Are you certified with any of the myriad groups out there?
If you want to certify for pp doulaing, CAPPA has a pretty low cost "distance learning" option, which means you wouldn't have to go to anymore classes.
My sister in law and her best friend are both doulas, and they both love it. (We have what appears to be a pretty strong labor and birth community growing here in AZ.) They both earn the majority of their living through pp work, although my sil really enjoys the birth part of things too. I've been in corporate america for 10 years and was just liad off - I've got two special needs kids, so advocacy is a big part of my life, so this is a natural next step for me, i think. I'm really loving it so far.
Congrats on the babymaking and pp doula stuff! Babymaking is fun (but gets frustrating as you may already know), but it will happen for you. It took me five months and the time I finally got pregnant was the first time I elevated my hips after sex. Maybe it was coincidence, but I tell all my girlfriends that when they are trying.
I can barely even remember the postpartum moments, but I remembered that I tried to do too much (like walk for hours just 5 days after giving birth), I took a LONG time to heal, sitting in the bath sucked, but was the best thing, breast feeding was MUCH harder than giving birth, and I had some very irrational thoughts in those first few weeks of barely sleeping. Next time around I'll sit in my bed for days, have people bring lots of food and get help with breastfeeding asap. I don't know how anyone could have helped me though, because I am a stubborn SOB.

no, I'm not certified. mostly because I did my pp training seven years ago (but never really did anything with it until recently) and too much time had lapsed to use that training towards my certification. I took a labor support training four years ago but mostly just to have well rounded knowledge of both vastly different but quite interconnected times in a mamas life (and for my own personal knowledge of course as I already couldn't wait to be a mama). my guess is that I'll eventually retrain in both and get certified at some point... maybe not though, I often like to roll the unconventional route : )
at any rate congrats on your training and good luck with certification and getting your FIRST birth client!! it'll be fun. I have heard a lot of people very pleased to be DONA certified especially when it comes to getting work, as many moms find names off of the website. what brought you into the field?
