HELP! *Update*
It's 3am. I'm still up. Dee is still awake. She's ok but she just.won't.sleep. So I'm tucking her in for the umpteenth time and I feel a LUMP ON HER NECK. It's not in the place I'd expect to find a swollen lymph node. When I touch it she moves away but she says it doesn't hurt. It's further down her neck than where I know to check for lymph nodes, and it's only on one side. She totally melted down today, worse than she has been since we took her on a five hour flight while she was teething a ear and a half ago, and she's been a holy living terror off and on for a few days. Could she be really ill? No fever to speak of though I'm sure she's been a bit feverish at least twice in the last week (warm to touch but not alarmingly so) and DH is home sick with something I think we all have (nausea, dizziness, muscle weakness). I'm totally freaking out. Any ideas? Should I take her to urgent care? Call the doc? Arg.
*update* She's ok. It's lymph nodes. We took her to the doctor today. She's still having a really hard time and today has been hell. Still no signs of any illness other than the swollen glands. Poor DH was at the doctor with a bitchy, scared, emo mama all day and it's his birthday. thanks for the love and info you ladies are my rock!

i had the same thing with nessa it was more like halfway down her neck rather then close to jaw line or ears like lymph nodes, when i called the nurse she said it was still lymph nodes in younger kids she said sometimes they kind of "move around". is the lump fluid and moves when you touch it? if it is a hard hard lump i would call doc but nessa was/is fine and that was 2 pr 3 years ago. lord i know your panic i wouldnt stop touching that spot for days and iwould just stare at her and make sure she is ok. im sure she is fine mama. also check both sides of her neck in the same area and see if you feel another one. let us know mama.

Ds has a few of those in weird places. The doctor told me they are due to his allergies and not to worry about them, they come and go..right now he does not have any, but they tend to come out more in the summer..when he has more allergies. Good luck, other than that I hope things are well for you!

Lymph node chains. You will have to scroll down quite a bit to get to the diagram. There are lots of them, and they run along the whole neck in chains.
If it is tender and movable, chances are it is an immune reaction, probably to some sort of infection. It is non tender and fixed, that is when you may want to be worried.
Good luck.

I'm glad she's ok, but obviously she's uncomfortable from something. Sounds like she's a little out of balance. The lymph system is so poorly understood - and it's effects can be far reaching. Aryuvedic medicine recommends "manjistha" for just this kind of thing. It's a powerful (totally safe) herb that helps restore balance to the lymph system. It should be taken for 1-3 months [300mgs 2X day on a more-or-less empty stomach]. You'll probably have to order it online, but I've heard great things about how effective it is in treating swollen lymph nodes (especially chronic ones in little kids).
Good luck, and I hope dh's birthday gets more fun for all of you!
I wish I'd have known about that a couple of years ago. They actually removed one of my lymph nodes in my neck that had been swollen for a few months for no real reason, lingering after some illness I had when I was in Costa Rica. I'm pissed that I let them do it without doing more research, but they were saying it could be AIDS or lymphoma or something else horrible. I figured it was better to know for sure with the biopsy than to just wait it out. Turned out fine, but I still have a feeling my immune system is cryin'. Somehow need to cut back on sugar...*sigh*

They wanted to take out a bunch of my groin lymph nodes, so I did some research and this is what I came up with. Dh has taken it for a few months at a time and it totally clears up his cystic acne.
