When we had E's big adoption party, we asked that in lieu of gifts party goers donate to one of two charities that we chose. One was the hospital where he was born.
Well it was brought to my attention that the hospital never cashed the checks, so I had the daunting task of trying to track them down. It turned out to go much smoother than I had expected and I spoke to a really nice woman on the phone who did, later that day, actually find the checks.
Anyhow, she was telling me that I should chose a specific place I want the money to go and oooh, there's something new...a brand new breastfeeding initiative that needs a lot of money to get going. We were talking about breastfeeding for a few minutes and she said they've already started simple steps, such as not automatically wheeling formula into the mothers' rooms. The moms can still get it but they have to ask for it instead of just having it there.
This initiative is trying to send moms home with a bag full of advice and products (I guess nursing pads, lansinoh, etc) in place of the bags full of formula products and coupons they usually hand out.
Oh! This makes me so so happy to contribute to this fund directly.
And to think, if our checks hadn't been misplaced, they maybe wouldn't have been applied to this. Hooray!
