Malin was born almost two and a half year ago. Now I think it's time to write down her/our birth story.
I had planned things completly different from what happened. I wanted a waterbirth but I got no chance.
It was in the beginning of June and we had not so nice weather since a couple of weeks, cool and rainy, not really feeling like summer. I had worked until two weeks before the first of June which was THE day. Malin took some days till. I went to the hospital on saturday to let them check if all is alright. When over time you go every second day to get checked. While I was standing there waiting to be left in (that ward is not to entry by just opening the door, for to guarantee the women peace you have to ring) another woman came and went inside with me. She was a friend of a mama-to-be, and her I knew from the course I had visited. She had started labour right that morning.
As every thing was fine I went home again. I should go to my doctor on tuesday for the next check.
On monday moring, at four o'clock my water broke. I rushed to the bathromm not really hearing anything but the thought that it was now starting! My DH (we were not married then, but are now) called if I would like a coffee. He says I shouted "We have to go!". I put a t-shirt on, put a towel between my legs and put my dressinggown on. And of we went riding into the fresh morning. We had a Pony (Hyundai) by that time which I thought to be funny... The streets were empty because it was still very early.
When we came to the hospital I had started to get the contractions. I was told to walk a bit to get things move on. But I could not stand. With every contractions my thighs were aching so much. I couldn't stand it, really. I just hung around DH's neck.
So after some time we went up again and I could take a calming bath. It was so wonderful lying in the warm water, I didn't want to get out.
But what a pity, I had to leave the tub. Labour was going on but I remained at four centimeter. So in the end I got a drip. Now it went on. But still every contraction caused my thighs cramped. The midwife hadn't seen something similar in all her working live. DH massaged my thighs with an oil for the perineum. It didn't help so much. That couldn't keep DH from making jokes with my midwive. Blame on him! Smile In the end that work was done and I could start pressing.
It is said that it is useful to take gravitation as helper. No chance. Every time I rise Main's heart started to beat to fast. So back on my back. Nevertheless the midwive had to call a doctor and he helped to push the baby out. He lay across me and pressed with his arm. So Malin came out at last.
It took not so long, me being a first-time-mother. At half past two she lay in my arms. That little wonder. DH washed her and I was sewn. After that I took my little girl and nursed her. To my relief that was no problem at all.
Malin was checked, healthy as healthy could be. I felt well, could take a shower, had no problems with blood pressure, so we could go home, all three of us.
At seven o'clock in the evening we were back to where we started in the early morning. By that time that other woman was sill in labour...
