a friend posted this on myspace and it melted me a bit. learned religious people with kind hearts are like a balm to me, and quench a little bit of my scorn. i struggle with facing hate with more hate. this helped a little. i know, i know. there are people like this out there. i wish there were more of them and less of the ones who voted in california and elsewhere on tuesday.

you are welcome susie

any thoughts on it?

At work, you think of the children you have left at home. At home, you think of the work you've left unfinished. Such a struggle is unleashed within yourself. Your heart is rent.

As a reformed fundamentalist christian

I think this is awesome. I'm too tried to go into it but i'd like to. I left the church for the last time 10 years ago and my interpretation of the bible was skewed, I think I'm going to read it again. I also love the way this information is explained. I know that it's the truth, that the bible is so very misinterpreted and how hateful people have used it to stay hateful. I wonder what it means that others that think the way that I did as a fundamentalist refuse to see the truth in this.

i hear you on the tired thing...

so no worries there. i was raised catholic (italian, it is like, mandatory) but i never really bought in,and by 12 or 13 was identifying as an atheist. mostly just hated nuns at that point. now i am an atheist because it resonates with me perfectly, and i am an activist atheist because, as a coworker put it so well this week, atheism is "the new closet".
i am not sure that it is really the bible that people are using to stay hateful, i don't think most people that fling around scriptures in bits and pieces really know much about that book. i think it is the dogmatic nature of all organized religion that makes people able to hide their fear and hate in it. and it doesn't hurt that right now in this country you can cloak a multitude of evils behind "i am a christian" because it isn't really OK not to be one in most people's opinion. most, not all. but trust me, most.
when we are less tired, we should talk more about this! xoxo
