Last night, I watched a beautiful and strong woman push out a beautiful and strong little baby girl.
For this wonderful privilege, I gladly cleaned up blood and shit, did lots of laundry and mopped floors. I went over to the house today to volunteer for more cleaning and cooking, for somehow, inside, I feel like I would do anything to say thank you.

I just gotta say that women are such amazing and beautiful creatures. We are strong beyond belief. We find power in ourselves, to grow these babies, to birth these babies and to mother these babies, and we find that power in thin air, and that's how I know that magic exists in this world.

Anyway, welcome to the world Beatrice Helena! You are so loved and so appreciated!

Yes! I love that name too.

It's not very common nowadays, so they were pretty stoked about it. Plus, she just looks like a B.

It was one of the most

amazing things I have ever been able to witness too. I think all women should be a birth attendant at least once. It is a mystical experience, at home or in a hospital!
Congrats to your friend and good job!

It really is amazing.

This is the second birth I've gone to, and it's one of the hugest privileges I've ever been blessed with. The woman who gave birth on Sunday is one of my best friends, and we had the same due date. Nobody knew what the sex of the baby was, and we didn't even think to look until she was already 5 minutes old. It was at home and B was born in the water. It was fairly quick for a first baby (12 hours of hard labor) and she did such an amazing job of finding coping strategies for the pain.

I am hoping that when I get my license I will be invited to some births to help with acupuncture, massage and herbs. I definitely want to build it into my practice.

I do think that it is a wonderful experience, as a woman, to be invited to a birth. I also see that this modesty (is that the right word?) that occurs in this culture also prevents a lot of mamas from inviting people, I know that was why I didn't (even though one of my friends came anyway, thank the goddess, cause we would have been screwed if she wasn't there to give dh breaks).

I had four friends at my first birth and pared that down to one friend and one doula at my second birth. Its so individual and different for each birth.

I loved

being surprised with the sex of my baby! Some people can't handle the wait, but I loved it! I think it would be wonderful for you to be a birth assistant with all you know and are learning!

Modesty or whatever. It is crazy! I was sort of like that with mine, but I think most modern women need to birth once to really understand how much your body says "screw this modesty crap" in the throes of labor. I was walking naked around the birth center with Ike, but I couldn't handle any of my family other than DH to be around me or even in the same room. I think next time even if they are banished for the labor, I need to make sure they get in for the birth because at that point you REALLY don't care.
That was the best part of birth, not giving a shit about social constraints. I wish I could be like that every day!

What a privelege

Who wouldn't want an acupuncturan herbalist at their big birth extraveganza? You´ll have mama2bs lining up after you graduate.
