Can't breathe... can't sleep

Submitted by Enelesn on Wed, 05/28/2008 - 8:34am.

I'm starting to have anxiety attacks now over the fact that I can't breathe through my nose. It's been about 3 days now with no real relief. I've even tried over the counter stuff - even though I'm 19 weeks pregnant... taken Claritin, Benedryl, Tylenol, Afrin nasal spray, Vicks vapo rub, tried the netty pot (the water won't even come out my mouth from either nostril - just sits in my nose), tried burning Eucalyptus oil, and even went to acupuncture. Earlier, there was so much pressure in my sinuses and my face that I just couldn't wear my glasses.
Now it's 4:30 in the morning and I have work tomorrow (TODAY) at 8am. I'm going to try to see my primary care doc at some point tomorrow, but I'm nervous they will tell me it's just allergies and there's nothing that can be done since I'm pregnant. I am just freaked out and miserable!!

cranial sacral or structural integration work that does inter-nasal work could help, too.

Oh my! I just saw this after I posted about Indy. Maybe I will go buy some Benedryl for her and see if that helps. I feel so sorry for you! I hope you feel better soon! Allergies suck! "Life may not be the party we hoped for but while we're here we might as well dance".- Maya Angelou

ask the doc if you can use an antiallergy nasal spray like nasonex or flonase. *i think* they may be okay to use while you're pregnant. they take a couple weeks to start working but it's worth the wait.
allergies SUCK. the pollen/mold levels this year are apparently waaaay high, and since being pregnant irritates the nasal passages anyway, it's like a double whammy for you. i hope you find some relief soon, mama!

I am right there with you, in fact just getting the kid ready to accompany me to the walk in clinic because my sinuses are so bad. Started on Friday, hasn't let up. Sorry you are feeling crappy too! Commiseration here.

I have terrible allergies, and had the same problems when I was pregnant. The only thing that seemed to help was sitting in a steamy bathroom. I'd turn the shower on as hot as it would go, close up the bathroom, put a towel on the floor in front of the door to seal it up, and sit in there for about 30 minutes with the steam. I just got a book or magazine and sat and read. Saline nose spray worked a little too. I liked it because unlike afrin or other medications, I could use it as much as I wanted to and didn't have to worry about using it too much.

I'm sorry you feel so crappy!!! I hope this helps.

If there is anything that drives me nuts, it is the innability to breath through my nose. I hope you feel better soon. It looks like you are doing everything under the sun. Hope you find something that will work & get cleared up.

an ENT (ears, nose & throat)? I had a few sinus infections while pregnant & was able to take anti-biotics...you are in the second trimester, it should be fine. I hope you feel better!
