so yesterday morning i picked up monkeygirl and she kept holding out her hand toward me...i wasn't really paying attention because i was trying to sort through some old mail, so i just put my hand up to hers in a kind of slow-mo high five and only then did i realize that her hand was covered in poop. i got stinkpalmed by own kid!! i feel terrible about my reaction; i froze and said "oh my god, there's poop everywhere..." (it was all over one of my favorite shirts). she started to cry and just kept saying "sorry honey, sorry honey" over and over. my heart sank, because i had made her feel like a 'bad girl'. i calmed her down and cleaned it all up, then sat down and explained to her that i wasn't mad at her at all and it was okay that she had gotten poop on her hand; how else am i supposed to avoid traumatizing her?? i guess she must have just shoved her hand down the back of her diaper to check out the scene down there, and i'm hoping this isn't going to start becoming a common activity. she's already pooped twice in her crib while she was 'napping', and she went through a phase for about a month where she pooped in the tub EVERY TIME i gave her a bath. i scooped more floating crap out of that tub in that month than anyone deserves to have to see. so i'm keeping my fingers crossed that her adventures in poopland are nearing their end! btw, does anyone have a daycare provider/family member that refers to poop as a "bm"? I HATE THAT EXPRESSION. it's almost as bad as referring to sex as "intercourse".
