After busting butt for a year to get the core curriculum for my Master's degree out of the way, I then got pregnant and took the next two years to complete comps, an 85 page thesis, and build a family. I guess you could say my plan didn't work out, but better things happened. And I'm finally officially getting that stupid degree on Saturday with my good foreverandever friend Lisa, who now lives in Amarillo. I'm glad we'll be there together, silly Master's hoods and all.
I'm hosting a bbq Saturday evening, and my family and extended family are coming over. Maybe. By this I mean that my sister's husband's brother, his wife, their three kids, and my sister's husband's parents, who all live together and are really effed up and are having more and more drama every, day might or might not show. I kinda hope they do, because I want those poor kids to be able to get out for a while and have a good time. These are actually some of the crappiest people I think I've ever met - closet racists, homophobes, mean parents, and hypocritical Christians to boot. But I try to reserve my judgments because I love the kids, think their mom could use all the positive help she can get, and know that if she doesn't start getting some kind of approval from someone (even the slightest nuance) that she's actually going to off herself successfully, and not just for show. I know because I've been there. But geez, I really can't stand the rest of those self-righteous a-holes. Really, I just want a nice bbq where no one hates each other, the food is good, no one utters the N-word or the term "wetback," and the kids have fun. And a card with some money would be nice.
Speaking of money, my latest tab, on the renovations being done to our local convention center + close Radisson hotel, has been canned. This means about 600 fewer buckaroos for this month, which I was counting on in order to pull us through until the end of August. Crap. I was so mad about it I ended up padding my latest invoice by about 100 bucks. Bah on the stupid newspaper. BAH, I say!
