Ok, is this a boy thing or simply a high-energy child thing: whenever R nurses to sleep at night, he seems like an amped up little octopus; his feet are bicycling like crazy pushing at my legs, my stomach, his upper arm is wildly clutching, pulling my shirt, slapping my chest, he's breathing all heavy like he's running a marathon, smacking. Sometimes he latches off then latches on like he's a piggie rooting in the mud. It's so boisterous and frantic. Anyone have a baby that nursed like this?
Also, he is equally enthousiastic about lunging towards any food that we might be eating. He hasn't started solids yet, I'm trying to hold out til 6 months. This Thursday he'll be 5 and 1/2 months and I was thinking of starting a little organic baby oatmeal mixed with breastmilk. He is SO upset at mealtimes and doing all those food readiness signs. It seems ridiculous to wait another two weeks. Or should I?
And is the wild nursing maybe an indicator that my milk is not satisfying his hunger (another 'readiness' sign)?
I should mention that he's a big 5 month old; at least 18 and a 1/2 lbs., 27 inches tall.
