today.
yikes!!

so in the event that my body doesnt agree with me going into labor, i'm investigating some natural ways and concoctions to get it started. i'd really really not like to try caster oil. (anyone have any stories about that?)

so mamas, give me your methods of starting this madness!! i'm planning on walking as much as my body allows, and squatting lots. i'm not having any sex because my junk doesnt want me to.

anything??

In the nick of time too b/c they were going to induce that same day she finally came out! I bought castor oil and black cohosh but didn't use it. I didn't want to be up all night with the diarrea that my midwife warned me about and I was already so sleep deprived. I walked, layed around, ate icecream, watched Walk the Line on HBO every day. My midwife also gave my cervix a good tug (OUCH!!) Ha ha those are my memories. But finally started contractions at my brother in law's soccer game. So who the heck knows. I echo the other mama on here that says nothing will make baby come out except that it's baby's time to get out!

Hang in there honey!!! I know how crazy you feel when you are just waiting. It'll happen, it is inevitable!! Smiling Lots of love flowing your way from my heart to yours...

...found that because it took a lot of my focus I literally forgot i was over my due date so it helped to get my mind off the anxiety of being induced etc, not to mention the discoimfort of my swollen feet etc. Had already tried all the 'remedies' to help bring it on with little success. Beware the cohoshes as they can really get things moving too fast. Obviously computer games aren't everyones thing, but I found it was really nice escape from the discomfort of late pregnancy, so effective in fact that I didn't even realise I had begun labour! Think its that old paradox that as soon as you stop trying so hard to make something happen it allows nature to do its thing.

ok, i truely don't believe that anything will get labour started before the baby is ready and starts cranking out the hormones- NOTHING has worked for me and i was over by 2 weeks both times (sorry), but should you want to try a few things i've heard of....

sex, walking, squatting, taking stairs 2 at a time, lots of e.p.o. (intravag as well), red reaspberry leaf tea, black/ blue cohosh (use with caution and under the supervision of a midwife), spicey food (or anything that will upset your bowels), which leads to castor oil, accupunture, chiropractic (to ensure proper positioning), having your midwife strip your membranes, scrubbing the floor, dehydrating yourself (which may not be the smartest thing to do), breast pump/ n!pple stimulation, making a hair appointment etc.

what used to get me through was simply knowing that every day i stayed pregnant was one day closer to going into labour. Smiling

Was relaxing and completely getting my mind off of the whir of anticipation. I did so much running around in my last pregnant days and the contractions kept stop-starting for like two weeks. It was maddening. When I finally sat down, got sucked into a movie and ate a softball-sized bowl of ice cream, bam! there it went.

In case you care, the movie was Match Point and the ice cream was chocolate and vanilla, all melted together.

but I walked and ate greasy spicy food and finally I was bullied in to castor oil (after about 36 hours of having broken waters and being strep b positive) and it wasn't too bad. They had me take a mild dose and if that didn't work then to keep taking mild doses until something happened. one mild dose, I threw up and then labor got rolling

I have heard horror stories about castor oil. Lots of poop cramps and diarrhea. Does not sound like a fun thing on top of labor.

and do it for 20 minutes every hour. And then tell me how it works because I'll be there soon.

I was too afraid to do the castor oil before but the breast pump "seemed" to do the trick.

hospitals rent them out. i don't know how you feel about a borrowed breast pump. i would think a hospital would go through extra effort to make sure it's clean!

?? just a thought if you are chompin´ at the bit.

i'm getting excited for you!!

Walking. I've heard of going for brisk moderate walks. I've also heard eating spicy foods.
Acupuncture! There are points for going into labor, I was tempted by them in my last week of pregnancy.
And I know you said sex is out, but you could masturbate.
