Yeah. That happened right outside of Eldorado, which is a hop-skip-jump from my town.

They're all here now. All five hundred billion of their children and mommas. Us small-towners have mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, we hate to see systematic brainwashing and abuse. On the other, not much is really known about what happened, (I think) the law took it a little too far, and the bias against freaky cult-like people is VERY prevalent here. As for the 16-year-old? People are beginning to wonder if she even exists.

Really, though. We all want our town back and for this to just go away.

i was just coming online to check what has developed with that. it's quite disturbing, obviously, how these people systematically rape children and call it marriage. it's also disturbing to me how authorities can go in and sieze people. i'm pretty conflicted about it. i mean, if they have reason to believe that the girls are in danger, then i am all for protecting them. but i wonder if they didn't just get an order to take every female under 18.

it's all so beyond crazy to me.

yeah, basically have the same issues here...on the one hand, if people want to practice polygamy (and I really think that is what is being vilified here) then more power to them...but the abuse, coercion, cult training/cutting people off from the world is just so upsetting to me.

anyone watch big love?

i'm not all bent about the raid alone. i'm holding out the benefit of the doubt that maybe it was about kids. maybe they did go in there to find the 16 year old, and they totally should have, that was a good move, and just found so many pregnant 15 year olds that they needed to investigate. i'm not ready to say that they are just persecuting them for their weird religion. i mean, they had a girl who had a baby when she was 15, that's probable cause, right? .... oh, sigh... those poor girls.

and I totally thought of the show when I read this article - especially of that dude Roman who is like 60 and took a 14 year old wife.
