the cost of food
Someone sent me this article at work today and I wanted to pass it on: http://tinyurl.com/29wd5z
It is about something that has been happening but people are only just realizing - the cost of food is going up and up. I deal with this everyday at work and I wish more people could read this article for a little perspective.

This was actually in my local paper. I continue to be outraged at the cost of food. I am patiently awaiting the day when we can be more self sustainable with chickens and garden and such. I have actually had to raise the amount I spend on food, by at least $25.00 which is a considerable lot!

It does seem like everything costs more every time I go to the store but I guess compared to Haiti, I should count my blessings. That is really scary.

if you want to have bio-food. It is scaring. Milk and cheese are so expansive now. I am living on welfare and what they think would be enough for my daughter isn't enough at all. Le4ss than 3 € per day! Hey, she is almost two now. And needs shoes and clothes as well. Happily I don't need special food for her. I couldn't pay it. We took meat from our table. Most of the time we are eating potatoes and noodles and rice. And cheap vegetables, deep frozen. Sometimes apples. Bananas? Mangos? Other fresh fruits? Too expansive. No money left for that. I HATE it. i really do. They who own the money do not know how expansive live can be.

I like the way you worded that - it reminds me of a conversation that I had with my 10 year old at dinner last night. I was attempting to help him understand this concept that people don't have enough food because they don't have enough money and that there might not be enough work out there for them to get the money, or that they might work too much and still not have enough money... even though there are some people who do next to nothing and have more money than god. He was shocked and couldn't understand why the people with money wouldn't just share at least a little with the people with no money so that they could buy food.
