do I have to have antibiotics? advil took care of my fever and the body aches/pain. my boob feels sore to the touch still, but i'm just continuing to nurse like normal.
oh and HI. i've seen ppl disappear off the site once they have their second child, and now I know why. time becomes so much more compartmentalized with way less free online time.

While nursing point his chin in the direction of the blocked duct and massage, massage, massage! Lots of h20 for you and hot compresses on the sore area.

Good luck mama!

I've been there many and it sucks!! And I just have to say the antibiotics are MAGIC - I've never had any medicine do me sooo much good so quickly. I know many folks have reservations about abx, but as the mastitis queen of 2007 I say TAKE THEM TAKE THEM TAKE THEM!!! Hope you feel better soon

My LC said to NOT do this because it actually dries up your milk, she told me this while I had leaves stuffed in my bra...

those fevers are NUTS!

I think bike-n-burley gave me this advice and it worked: relax/rest as much as possible (sorry, I know how hard this is to actually do) and let your little one nurse, nurse, nurse until she "pulls" the bacteria out of there. It took a few days, maybe a week for the last one to totally clear up, but this worked for me.

and yeah, tylenol/advil/whatnot for the pain/fever.

Also, taking a bath with salt (plain old sea salt works, or in a pinch I'd use table salt) is helpful again to suck out the junk. massage the area under the warm H2O, it can suddenly "unplug" and everything will come pumping out.

sorry so disjointed...at work...but hope this helps.
