Birth Control

Anyone else out there on or been on Loestrin24?
I was on it for about a year. Had been on OrthoNovum7/7/7 for about 10 years - without much of a problem. I stoped taking it after my ex-husband and I separated - 3 years later, I became pregnant with my son (who is now 3 yrs. old). I tried going back to Ortho after I finished nursing him, but I had some pretty bad depression and mood swings so after about a year my gyno (at my urging)switched my to something else - Loestrin24. I barely ever had my period at all on it. I know that's supposed to be normal, but I find it weird & unnatural. I stopped taking the Loestrin this past January, after being on it a year and STILL no period (not pregnant, took 2 tests)- it kinda freaks me out...

Had that experience after the birth, too. I had a pill I took all the time (don't remember the name) and had no or almost no period. When i was no longer breastfeeding I changed to my vaginal ring I like much better. It's less hormons, no need to take a pill every evening. You put it in, forget for three weeks, take it out and after a week you put in the next one. I have made the experience that it has no side-effect on my sex drive, something every pill has on me. Maybe that would be an alternative for you?

but I haven't taken any pills for 8 yrs - so they might have been slightly different from what you're taking. I switched from orthonovum to lowestrin, had the no period thing and was STILL depressed. So I gave up on all of it. I waas instantly less depressed, got my period four months later, and have used natural family planning ever since. Phew.

And the period thing happened to me too. I got one but it was literally for only two hours. It was a little weird for me too, and a couple of times I took pregnancy tests because DS was conceived while I was on Yaz. I quit taking it at the end of December and got a mega period at the end of January. Give your body a little time to adjust, I'm sure you'll be back to normal soon. You mentioned mood swings and stuff from the ortho and I think the Loestin did that to me. I was just saying to DH today that I've been in a much better mood since I quit taking it, and he said that even he's noticed. He said, "Yeah, you're horny now too" LOL! Poor thing, my sex drive has been pretty much nonexistent since DS was born and he's 19 months now. DH is right, "Its like I've got my girlfriend back" which was a nod to the insatiable girl he fell in love with and married Smiling

sometimes hearing that someone else has gone through the same or similar thing feels SO much better than a doctor saying "oh, that's normal".
I too went through a super low swing in my libido. My poor husband got together with and married a girl that was insatiable when it came to sex only to have me lose almost ALL interest in sex. Since I have been off the pill, that's helped that situation out a good bit. Now if I can only keep that going when things are busy and stressful too...
Thanks again Smiling

Honey, this is the reason I love Hipmama. There are sooo many other like-minded women here that its impossible to feel alone. I totally agree that its comforting to know that I'm not the only person that crazy obscure totally normal things happen to Eye-wink
