save the drama for your mama

i watch a friend of dean's one day every week. no problem. occasionally, his mom will call and ask for help on additional days. no problem.
last sunday, she called and asked if i could watch him two additional days while she was on a business trip, his dad would pick up from me, and she would pay me. no problem.
those days pass uneventfully.
then she gets back. everything hits the fan.
the dad told her that i was annoyed with her for her short notice. he also told her that she was selfish for using me.
i don't feel these things at all.
a wonderful battle of he said you said, and that's not what i said follows and lasts three days.
after many MANY hysterical phone calls from her, from him, and her MOTHER (i know, right? why the f is her mom calling me?)
why am i defending myself for doing a favor?
i have decided that it is now a problem.
blech. sorry, kid, we all love you like one of our own, but your parents are nuts.

geeze, this sucks for the child, big time. did she finally get the picture that you don't feel that way? did you say something to her dh that he could have misinterpreted/read into? i love the title to this post - so appropriate!

oooo I hate that.
I don't know if its the same thing here, but it reminds me of several friends I have lost after doing them favours. I am starting to figure out that some people just hate and resent feeling any kind of debt to another person- especially if you do the favour like it's nothing, and they can't return any such favours so they flake out... It's really strange.
