Babies...

So I wanted to put this out there just to see what kind of answers I get...
How many of you had planned pregnancies and how many of you were surprised?
I'm newly married and have a 3 year old and my husband wants a baby soon - he also wants a puppy, but that's another blog all together! I would LOVE to have another child, but am torn about when. Do I wait for my son to start school? Do we get a dog 1st? Do I just stop taking the pill and let the chips fall where they may? I know the decision is ultimately mine, but it's always nice to have a sounding board.
So, if you have time, let me know your thoughts and experiences.
Smiling

Our 7 year old was a surprise. 6 months of marriage and I was pregnant. That was the shock of a lifetime, though, I didn't take my BC pills everyday, so it shouldn't have been too big a shocker. What can I say? I was 18 and very very uninformed. Smiling
We wanted our oldest to have a close sibling and time started going....We calculated that we wanted them no more than 3 years apart and started trying. 3 months later I was pregnant. They are 2 years 7 months apart.
And with our 9 month old, we felt like we wanted to try to have a girl, though we never really said, 'let's try'. I went off my BC and we thought, "well, if it happens it happens and if not, that's okay too." She was born 3 years and 10 months after our middle son. NO MORE FOR US THOUGH. REALLY. we never used any birth control, but it wasnt until we were 5 years into our relationship that we made a baby. it was good timing though. after she was born i had mad hormonal rushes leading us quickly to our second child. they are 17 months apart. our third is due to be born around the time of my first child' 4th birthday. so we will have a 4 year old, 2.5 year old and a newborn.
my husband comes from a family with three kids similarly spaced. i have always admired how close they are. they have been able to relate to each other well because they are close in age.

at times it is tough with two such small children, like trying to reason with them while they are still developing their logic. they run wild together which has it's plusses and minuses.

i would go for a babe before a puppy probably.

totally charted out my cycle, had sex on the 'fertile days', kept my legs up in the air for a good while after, et al. yet somehow we were totally floored when we found out we were pregnant. at least i was. BD and I ahd been together for well over 10 years and hadn't used any birth control aside from withdrawl for the vast majority of them. and we weren't exactly spring chickens, so every person (and book) implied that it would take us 6+ months to get pregnant. but that wasn't the case for us. at all. first time to bat and we knocked it outta the park.

for real. I was trying to lose weight for the wedding (whatever) and got off of the pill just before. While they told me in high school that the "pull out" method doesn't cut it, somehow I had to learn my lesson the hard way.

Well, we have a really extraordinary souvenir from the honeymoon anyway.

I now have an IUD, LOL.

as in we weren't officially trying to make babies. Number one was conceived when I went off the pill and just let nature do its thing - it didn't take nearly as long as we thought it would. Number two was conceived when one day we had a quickie with no condom - at the point where we could have minimized our chances of getting pregnant I cried out "I want another baby!!" and DH said "I do too!!" and here we are.

Baby #1 was a first date baby. Yee haw!
Babies 2 and 3 were planned.

Most were condom babies, I tried the pill, shot, and patch and had bad reactions to them all...in between these trials we used condoms and we made ourselves a lovely little family. We knew we wanted at least four kids, we just didn't want them so close together, but now that we've experienced their closeness we're glad it worked out that way.

we planned. Baby #2 I was nursing and we knew that wasn't 100% foolproof birth control but knew we wanted more (and baby #1 was a very easy baby) so we just let nature take her course. I got pregnant when #1 was 9 months old Smiling
Baby #3 is being adopted, so we had no idea about him. We didn't know if we'd be matched up with an infant or a todller or how long it'd take or anything. (fwiw, it was 6 weeks after we were licensed and he was 10 weeks old. First two were 5 and 4 then).
