The taming of the monster AKA Sophiesworld's Cleaning Blog **W/ EDIT(s)**
My apartment, that is. I have a theory that I THINK can be supported by scientific fact. If you let one corner, desk, surface of your house go to seed, then it'll start eating the rest of the house. Maybe it's just a mental thing and the space for messiness just gets wider in your mind. I don't know, but it was starting to happen here. It happened to my mom and it is BAD. Theres enough clutter and mess to eat three houses in there. I'm way more uncomfortable with it then I used to be. It was awful growing up like that because I could never have any friends over and it was embarrassing when the 'rents would leave the front door open and the screen closed to get some air. Everyone could see in.
Now that i'm in my own place with my own family and my own life, I've vowed not to live that way. Taking a step back early today, I noticed that it was. SO and I have no idea how to be "grown ups". We were basically kids with our respective parents up until S was born. Kids responsible for said parents' every whim, but thats another post.
SO and I geared up and took control. He got the kitchen (I cook, so he cleans it) and I got the bedroom. Piles of clothes everywhere, baby toys, clutter, for some reason easter grass... It was pretty daunting. But it all got done! Our room is amazing and peaceful with a place for everything and everything in it's place. I also set up a new hamper system so clothes don't end up on the floor. Same goes for the kitchen. Dishes all done and put away correctly, counters wiped, food organized... I even made a little sign that says "Angry Spouse says: HAVE YOU CLEANED UP AFTER YOURSELF?! (no, it can't wait until tomorrow)" It makes us laugh.
Tomorrow or possibly tonight, the living room.
Dun, dun, DUUUNNNN....!
EDIT
My living room is now clean. I got up at 8:30 this morning, made coffee, put the dishes away and did my usual morning routine. Got dressed (not down to my shoes, really. I'm wearing my fuzzy slippers instead cos thats how I roll) and got to work organizing and picking up the living room. Aesthetically, it's so awesomely put together looking. There are still drawers and a tabletop that needs to be tamed. I realize that this must be BEYOND dull to read. It's mostly just a space for me to pat myself on the back and to look at my progress and see what needs to be done. Also, it makes me feel better about my frequent HM/internet breaks.
After the papers and stuff, theres just the bathroom (not that bad) and "Sophie's Room" AKA The place we stashed all the boxes we didn't feel like unpacking when we moved in Room. That'll be pretty difficult because NOTHING is organized. I'll have to sort it all out into keep but store, goodwill, take into living space to unpack and put away and garbage.
It's actually kind of fun after 3 cups of strong coffee and a few good hits off of SO's bong. HA!

It feels good to get it cleaned up. We have a basement that is out of control...It is also the guest room & office. Did I mention my mom is coming in 2 weeks? Yeah, I've gotta get that shit cleaned up. You've inspired me;)
Congrats on reaching order. I definitely still struggle everyday with the chaos around me. I conquer it a little bit and then it just pops back even bigger!

Yay for getting cleaned up! I could take a note from your pages and do the same. I wish it wasn't a constant chore. I wish I could do it once a week and be done with it until the next Saturday. But alas, keeping a place clean is everyday everyday everyday everyday.
I'm glad you are making good strides.

I used to be able to keep my place somewhat presentable, but it's been at crisis level messiness for awhile now.
My mother had no housekeeping skills I think mostly because *her* mother was over the top OCD about cleaning. So as a result, I can't keep any coherent system for organizing and I'm really bad at getting the kids to do anything for fear of being "mean mommy."
Anyway, you've inspired me. Did all of that take just a couple of days?

YAY for a clean living room!
Your post helped to inspire me last night. I made a huge list, and today I tackled a major part of it, also in between frequent HM/internet breaks.
Also, word to the fuzzy slippers. I always liked the idea behind Fly Lady, but if she had said we could wear fuzzy slippers while we worked, I might have been more inclined to join.

GOD, I'M SO AWESOME!
lol. I'm really happy to be inspiring others to clean. The only other times when that happens is when i'm so messy others compulsively clean up after me
