Just went downtown via bus to pick up some food to last us until our car bitch gets back from being with his family for Thanksgiving. We're all out of food stamps, but at least it's the end of the month.
Sophie has this weird rash that crops up on her tummy, back, shoulders and around, but not on, the diaper area. We suspect it's harsh detergents for her clothes. We were using that delicious smelling Trader Joe's all natural lavender detergent, but maybe it's too harsh. My family is notorious for weird skin allergies and half of us require allergen/dye/scent free detergents and no fabric softener. She's been doing great with the TJ's stuff until now. Gah. So at Longs we were looking at the Dreft and it's so freakin expensive! We aren't made of money! Plus, the free sample I got from the hospital way back when didn't do anything to get poop, urine or spit stains out. I have some baby oxy-clean, though... And we got some Che*r Free on sale. I hope it works. It also might be because we have to use a communal laundry room and people use some harsh stuff like bleach that gets stuck in there FOREVER.
It might also be some kind of food allergy, so I'm paring her variety WAY down. Bananas, yogurt, avocado, apple... just basic baby-friendly stuff. Then I think i'll re-introduce everything else she's been eating until I find a culprit.
Then again, maybe they're some kind of weird bug bite? It's like a little raised bump and a lot of surrounding redness. Theres about 10 on her tummy right now. SO and I don't have bug bites and we share the bed with her. We got some Aqu*phor irritated skin balm to see if it helps. Plus, it's been kind of dry anyway.
Sweet Jesus this is annoying. C'est la vie.

I highly recommend Purex,

I highly recommend Purex, both for cheapness and lack of skin irritation. My older DD had a skin allergy to Dreft, I shite you not...

I can only use A L L, dye

I can only use A L L, dye free. Not Ch*er, not T*de, not the stuff from TJ's. Not even biokle*n or s*vnth generation or dr*ft, not even the super concentrated A L L dye-free. Go figure. The only other option that's been okay is the dye free stuff from amw*y.
If you use the laundromat, maybe you could do a load of your grown-up clothes with the "safe" detergent first, then use the same machine for baby clothes. I know it'll take more time, but it might help.
Also, have you recently changed soap/shampoo/butt paste? Have you changed diaper brands, or, if you use cotton and have a service, have they changed their detergent? You can ask for the sensitive skin treatment, but I don't know what your diap situation is.

We just use regular old

We just use regular old h*ggies or p*mpers. the diaper are it's self isn't a problem (thank jeebus, because i wouldn't be very excited about cloth diapers) We did do a few grownup loads, but i forgot to rinse the bleach caddy out with water before I did the baby load. It looks like it might be getting better. Thanks for the tips

have you had it checked out?

to rule out staph? not to be alarmist, but it is going around, and it's best to catch it as early as possible.

I have her physical in a

I have her physical in a week and it's pretty hard to book apt.s since it's one of the only medi-cal pedi offices in our county. It's at the very top of my list of things to ask about.

well i haven't seen teh rash

if you suspect staph (do a google image search if you're not sure), if you tell them that you suspect it, i bet they will get you in. staph is serious, and they take it very seriously as a public health issue. they'll want to test to see if it's MRSA.

oh, and staph scars. if that's what it is, she will be scarred. again not to freak you out, it's on my own mind lately. i have a friend getting her phd in public health, she's been telling me a long time that she's got no fear of aids, hepatitis B or C, no e coli, nothing. but staph, she gets her kids to teh doctor at the first sign.
