new babies & kittens

Oh my god, I'm due this month. It's starting to dawn on me. I've passed 37 weeks, my due date is the 23rd. M was born at 38 weeks. Eeeek! It could be this week, it could be a few more weeks! I'm up at 5:30 am (ok, with the time change 4:30am, but my body doesn't know that yet). Already this is the newborn's active time, he is riling up my belly with his swift kicks. This is the big week I've been waiting for. I have m's 3year wellness checkup Wednesday, then my mom arrives for her long stay on Thursday, the band gig Friday night, then the big indie craft fair all Saturday. After that I'm free to give birth, if the baby is so willing.

A new kitten has taken up residence under our deck, and increasingly in our hearts. She is so loving and so far from feral. So skinny and malnourished. She's been fed kitten food by us for almost a couple weeks now, and is a total snuggler. Our outdoor cats watch her from the windows, and sniff our hands after we pet her, and they don't freak out. They seem really curious about her. We need to take her to the Wellness clinic and get her spayed & all her shots, and test her for stuff, and then we're going to integrate her indoors! By her appearance, I really hope she doesn't have feline aids, that it's only that she's been surviving outdoors for so long alone.

How crazy to take on a new kitten just as a new baby is going to come into our house! But she totally had me sold, when she climbed her bony little body into my lap, nestled across my arm, and then gently hugged both her paws around my pregnant belly, then proceeded to nuzzle my arm with her head. Looking up at me with her pretty green eyes, her soft smoky gray fur and white chest & paws. Her coloring complements our ginger and tabby cats. I never thought we'd have 3 cats. i always thought, 2 kids, 2 cats (1st girl, then boy, heheh). This third kitty is a girl.

Our sleeping arrangements are so weird lately. DD senses the changes ahead, and has decided to stop sleeping in her bed & stop sleeping through the night. She has been a champ at both for years, right. Now suddenly she wakes at 3am demanding MILK! How funny is that? I swear she had a talk with baby brother, who told her to prep us. She's sprawled across our bed now, I'm on the couch, dh is in the guest bedroom.

Another aspect of this is that I just discovered black mold has returned to dd's bedroom wall. So it's fortunate that she's not sleeping there the past few nights. Dh got some mold managment product that he's going to use tomorrow. I'm so scared and paranoid about that stuff. Her room is just off ours. Even with the door closed now, I'm still paranoid about that shit being like 8 feet away from where I sleep. It sucks. I don't even know how you'd replace the wall, foundation, a chunk of carpet. The siding on the side of the house is all damp and wet outside for some reason, and this is making the mold creep in. I want it gone, especially from the babies' room! I hate that such an evil menace has entered that room.

Ok, I guess that's most of it. I'm so not sleepy. Now it's the 'new' 5am. Off to surf more internet to tire myself out...

41 *yes, 41* weeks pregnant at Dh's birthday party/DJ gig. The bit on my nose was because I had had a tumor removed from the side of my nose just 1-2 days before (3 different docs scratched their heads and said "huh, well, strange things happen when you're pregnant" -- um, yeah...huh! indeed. It was huge! and I got to walk around hugely pregnant looking like someone had broken my nose -- dh was a bit self-conscious about this).

Anyways, thought you'd get a smile out of this, looks like you have similar events coming up!

whoah, you kind of look like me and I have a similar white fuzzy sweater. I thought it was a strange parallel universe pic of me at first glance. definitely smile worthy. hope your nose wound didn't contribute to the labor pains.

half swiss, a quarter *something eastern european* -- great gps came from slovenia, hungary, czech, ??? -- nobody knows exactly and they didn't apparently share their language or history... and some scottish (paternal grandma). perhaps that combo = +/- Polish? Ha ha.

Nope, they had actually hoped it might put me into labor (bc I was overdue anyway) but no such luck... -- thing didn't hurt, they took the stiches out just before labor.

hang in there, mama!
