rants of an insomniac, in hopes of a lurker or two to keep company.
It's 11:45 PM. I am up. My stomach is twisted in knots; my children are asleep. I don't even feel like watching a movie or reading a book - my typical diversions. My husband is out with a friend watching a movie; I am very happy for him to have a night out on his birthday. I have felt tired and beleaguered all day thus you might think I was ready for sleep. Apparently, not to be had.
I get panicky when I can't sleep. At times like this (rare enough, but creeping up on me lately) I feel like I'm the Only Person Awake. I so far have not resorted to medicine (altho' I've tried a few of the homeopathic remedies recommended by hipmamas) but what I wish more than anything else is something strong to knock me out; I know, not helpful in the long-term.
Why is it a Mama does most of the work around the house and sleeps the least?

I just logged on, and here you are--not enjoying your alone nighttime, huh? Sometimes doing a little stretching & listening to music calms me down for sleep. Do you want to talk about what's up? Anything particular?
I'm all wired up from taking ds to see Harry and the Potters in concert at the library. I was feeling all accomodating and patronizing about it, but I danced my ass off, they were really fantastic.
Happy birthday to R. How was the party?
Sorry you're feeling yucky. I'm going to go map my yard sale route for tomorrow; hopefully I'll find something to start a 'bargain mamas' with. night.
And I was - because I, too had insomnia again but was in bed TRYING to sleep instead of on the computer (where I should have been!).
I really wish I had been here for you though. I'm sorry.
Big, big hugs.

Wish I'd been up to keep you company!

well, how are you today? sorry, a restless, uneasy mind kept you up last night. i really hope you can relax and enjoy the fun weekend you have planned.
"this, too, shall pass."
but i was making temari. sorry you had a rough night; that sucks when you can't sleep.
I logged off at 11:30 and fell asleep on the couch with clothes, makeup, et al on. I'm usually a late nighter...dragon chic is on late nights a lot also.
What we need is some Hawaiian hipmamas. In the midwest I used to be up late most nights as, like newleaf pointed out in a single mamas thread, it was one of my only times to express myself sans kids. I liked that the west coast mamas were still up and posting. No hon, you are not the Only Person Awake
***the United States is one of only four out of 168 countries studied to not have some form of paid family leave for new moms. We join Swaziland, Papua New Guinea, and Lesotho in not having that policy in place. ***
Thought I'd see how you were doing.

But you are like the Smart Girl who looks directly at someone and asks, aren't you? Hee hee.
So no, not so much enjoying my night-time. It's my fault. I'm too keyed-up in some way so that all it takes is one thing going screwy and I'm up with nausea. Perhaps when I get the bike out of the shop and burn some serious ass on the roads I'll be able to "turn off" at night (with my trusted and recommended cal / mag supplement!).
We just had the family party tonight; at the Thai Carrot restaurant (Sophie calls it, "The Tidy Carrot"). The kids helped with Ralph's birthday cupcakes and presents (new bike helmet; shorts). Our lake getaway is this weekend and the preparations for it are part of my no-sleep problem.
Thanks for keeping me company for a bit!
