where's that movie mama thread?because i saw Knocked Up this weekend and freaking loved it. i laughed, i cried, two thumbs up. way way up. see it before you hear too much about it. also watched Iraq For Sale. i heart robert greenwald. i try to catch him whenever he's on talk shows, he's so funny and smart. and totally adorable. and i completely applaud his efforts. his films are great, they're important, they're loaded with info that we all should be privvy to. i just wish his films were a little more...i dunno...exciting to watch? not that he has to be like michael moore and infuse himself into every scene, but a little personality wouldn't hurt. and he has so much. still, i'll watch anything he makes. gladly. anybody else?

This movie came out last year, but I watched it twice as a rental. It's an action flick (my favorite) and it has Patrick Bergin and Eric LaSalle in it. Though you wouldn't recognize either one, they're so good. It's about the nonglamorous parts of London ie drugs and crime. The actors are all completely NORMAL looking and the pacing is just right. And if you're into reggae at all, the soundtrack is kickass! I've been listening to it for the last two weeks.

Cache (hidden)
anyone? with 2 kids in the house we watch movies in 1 hour shifts. We were enthralled, nervous, tense the first hour, couldn't wait for the second half. I don't know if we just lost momentum but the last half fell completely flat- especially the ending.
Knocked up is going to be our anniversary outing - can't wait - I love Judd Apatow!

Cache was annoying in the way many French thrillers are- lots of tension, big build up, all leading to a big fat nothing. It just abruptly ends, in a very anti-climactic fashion that I definitely don't like.

Sorry about being lax on the movie mamas this week! I'm so surprised to hear that people loved Knocked Up so much. I keep rolling my eyes every time I see the TV spot. But now I'm intrigued...
I was away for the weekend and didn't watch any movies. We've got some miniseries about Castro- I think it's called "The Fidel Project"- coming from Netflix, so I'm looking forward to that...
i just saw on DVD......
Drum Roll please............
Brokeback Mountain. I hate going into movies with all the hype on how wonderful they are, but I have to say I was highly impressed. After the movie I read the short story and Annie Proulx's
notes on how the whole story came about and evolved (QUITE interesting).
I also am a HUGE fan of Larry McMurtry, and Diana Ossana. Thier adaptation and Ang's direction were spot on.
Now the bigger question is why don;t I watch many features? I go to bed too damnearly I suppose.

Saw Blood Diamond over the weekend and it was okay. I thought the story was good but just so cheesy with the romance between Leo's xter and Jennifer Jason Leigh's; it just turned me off a bit. Once again, super depressing and upsetting that we turned our heads to another atrocity in Africa, but it was worth watching. Also saw night at the museum and was not impressed--not as funny as I was hoping but I can see why it was popular with kids.

Odd, I just saw a quote from him

One of the funnier comments uttered in my house this week
had to do with a movie. The "family night" (at the theater that has family nights) had two choices last week -- 28 weeks later (wtf on family night??) and Miss Potter. So I was all for going just for the sake of going and a bit concerned because bubs is starting to pay attention to TV - I don't want to warp her mind too much with crazy cannibalistic zombies -- and I was pushing for the Miss Potter movie as the lesser of two evils even though I a. hate Renee Zellweger and b. couldn't give a shit about Beatrix Potter's life.
Then dh looks at the description, "Renee Zellwegger portrays Beatrix Potter, the creator of "Peter Rabbit," in this charming true life drama," and goes, "Charming true life drama? They'd better at LEAST be giving out handjobs with that!" He had a point. We saw 28 days and bubs ended up climbing up and down the steps the whole time -- didn't see a lick of it. PS it kind of sucked. PPS I went in to the potter movie for a bit when I went downstairs to change bubbie's diaper and dh was so right. it was lame.

I just came home from watchin Hot Fuzz - and I fucking loved it!
I was with my very churchy girlfriend and we laughed and laughed and laughed. I liked it more than Shaun of the Dead - which I also liked. I liked it so, so much and I loved all the British talent! It was like an all-star cameo fest!
I know I'll like Knocked Up because I like everyone involved in the project. In fact I re-watched The Forty Year Old Virgin to warm me up. And loved it, again. I think it's one of the best guy friendship movies I've seen.
Last week I watched Apocalypto with my mom. We really, really, really liked it.
I am currently making my way through the entireity of "Freaks & Geeks". I am so ashamed to say this but I have the hots for James Franco, no matter what he does and that includes the ass-out Spiderman franchise (he was at his best in City by the Sea tho').
Thanks for doing a movie thread, I have been timidly waiting for one to come out!

Can I tell you how much I love Freaks and Geeks, I was so pissed off when that went off the air. I have to get those to watch, thanks for reminding me.

Freaks and Geeks
loved it too,did you ever catch "Undeclared"? I think it only lasted half a season, but it was on the road to brilliance. All of our favorite shows get cancelled; Arrested Development anyone?
Love Arr Dvlpmt! They run
Love Arr Dvlpmt! They run reruns on a channel here, I think it is called G4, a few nights a week. People would rather watch "The Bachelor" and "American Idol"; hey, whatever floats your boat, but c'mon AD and FnG was effing great!

oooh! Hot Fuzz is on the family night tomorrow!
Maybe we will have to go. Actually, since my friend has graciously agreed to hang with bubs later this week, I have promised dh I will see Spiderman with him -- spidey has always been his favorite superhero so he MUST see it, bad reviews or no. I'll just be happy to be able to sit in my seat with my husband and see a movie without having to trade off walking up and down (and up and down and up and oh god...) the stairs with Little miss thing.
Just saw the Queen -- while the acting was good, we both kind of wished it was more about her and her life and less about princess Diana.

knocked up
Loooved it. Saw it in a crowded theater, and listening to the other reactions was half the fun.

I saw Waitress
mostly because I have dual crushes on Nathan Filion and Keri Russell. It was my first movie at a theatre in years and it was pretty good. Didn't love it because it was a bit contrived but I was really touched by some parts and overall enjoyed it.
I didn't even know Fillon was in it.
He is damned sexay. And a good actor and stuff.

Yep
Yum. Uh, I mean, um, excellent motivation in that scene Nathan.
that's next on my list
i haven't been able to go see it yet because i'm still totally traumatized by Adrienne Shelly's tragic, sensless murder. i love her so so much, have since i first saw her in The Unbelieveable Truth. she was a pure gem.
