DH and I are finally getting away for a weekend (much needed! first overnights away in 2 1/2 years since DS was born) in July. . .all well and good except my period is due right then. which is fine, except i was looking forward to all sorts of fun. . . i remember vaguely that somehow using the pill can alter when it begins and starts. would that be possible? would i really mess up my system if i took the pill for like 2 months? thanks!

I would call your prescribing doc

However, lots of women take the pill continuously. The new marketing campaign for Seasonalle is just that, a marketing campaign. Women have often taken two months continuously because of travel or a wedding, and some always taken it continuously regardless and just never menstruate. Fort the record, I am not a fan of hormonal birth control, and you should talk to a prescribing health care practitioner when you mess with meds, but this is really common.

i know the trick!

I actually skip my period b/c I get menstrual migraines so my doc has me skip it for like 3-4 months at a time. You just skip the inactive pills that you'd take while menstruating (usually the white ones?) and start a new pack of active pills instead. if nothing else, it'll shorten and lighten your period.
hope this helps!
