The Maternity Home that I am a volunteer community health nurse for needs doulas to attend these women's births. They can not compensate because these are women in transition from homelessness that are facing new sobriety and other issues but I think that perhaps they have a non-profit ID so maybe a tax write off could happen? PLEASE HELP! If you have any ideas for what we can do otherwise it will be a new mom alone with the medical team.

here is the link to the maternity home: http://themadisonhouse.org/

here is a link to the larger organization: http://www.goodsamaritanministries.org/index.php

Let me fore warn you... this organization is very christian. They are very accepting and loving people who- in my experience- practice what they preach. If this is a problem for you then this is not something that you will want to be involved in. I have found that this has been a great oppertunity to connect with new mom's and help them find themselves. I can support them in making healthier choices, but unfortunately with 9 women in the house at once I cannot attend the births due to my job and the unpredictability of delivery.... suggestions??

Does the person have to be a certified doula

Or can they be a labor assistant? Cause I can be a labor assistant for one of them. I have tons of information about resources here and health info, etc...
I sent the link to my friend who is a doula, but she's supremely busy right now, so I don't know if she'll be able to do anything.

Thank you and no not

Thank you and no not necessary to be a certified doula. I think that these women need someone to be with them for their births and support their decisions. Oh and help advocate for them and educate them on their choices.

I just spoke to the new

I just spoke to the new house mom.. And it looks like Portland Birth Services, (aka me) will be handling the doula stuff.. I'll provide certified, student, and volunteer doulas when needed.. SQ I'd be happy to get your help if you'd like to join in! Laughing out loud
