gardening again

We are starting on the garden finally. We moved a few months ago and our new place is pretty ungardenable, well, ungardenable without a greenhouse unless we want to grow just greens. Plus I am not sure our landlord would want us to rip out what little lawn there is.
So we rented space a couple of miles away (close since we live in a ruralish area) and I think it will be cool - we get some free worm-compost (I am not sure how much) and the space was fenced and tilled prior to our rental, so that saves a ton of time and money. We have a 29x16 foot space - I have never had a garden that big, so it's exciting and a bit daunting at the same time.
Every garden, every spring I feel like I have never done this before. We are getting such a late start this year (no where to grow starts and a remote location to plant have contributed) but I took over our big dining table (the one for guests, not our tiny little breakfast nook table) for my starts even though it's not ideal...it is better than outside for now. Today we laid out the paths and are going back this afternoon to get a real start - my husband (he only helps with big "manly" jobs, which is fine) is going to dig out my potato section, dig my paths out a bit and I am going to start the planting. (Very late late) garlic, onions from starts and then peas and a ton of other stuff from seed. I can't believe it's mid march. Potatoes will go in once I get my seed potatoes (from a friend, hopefully this week) so they will only be a little late.
I am reading "the omnivore's dilemma" and I wish I had enough $ or whatever to move to new zealand and have a tiny organic farm, some chickens and live with my little family. The worst part is we could almost do it (he has a standing job offer) but we probably won't. At the same time I am freaking out about getting the garden going all I want to do is travel. Odd.

We got a lot done this afternoon! We have somewhat raised rows with burlap sacks to cover the paths (they were free so we figured why not?) and I planted the garlic, onion starts, peas, beets (3 kinds), carrots (3 kinds), lettuce (2 mixes), spinach (2 kinds), kale( 1st kind, the second is coming in the mail), collards, chard (2 kinds) and something else I think. Plus we got a dozen free fresh-today eggs (some of which we had for dinner in a fabulous omlette) and now we are tired people.
My husband dug the whole potato trench and my son got as dirty as can be!gardening

this sounds fantastic.
I wanted to tell you too, that one year we built a little 'greenhouse' out of discarded windows, it wasn't perfect but it worked out okay.
