Weaning and a full moon?
My mom just mentioned this to me. She said she weaned all four of us during a full moon. She said her mother told her to do it, and she doesn't know why. Anyone?

(wow - my email on file was so old - it was from the old hipmama email!)
My dear wise friend who has passed away used to tell me about the natives in New mexico who told her to wean during specific full moons. their logic is that certain lunar phases are associated with body parts and the the best time to wean or give up something was when the phase was in realtion to the knees because there was a quick transition to the feet & out of the body for good. The indian women always said to wean when it was going to hit them in the knees. She successfully weaned both her daughters ( who were quite attached to the breast) with very little difficulty using this method. She told me about her oldest who woke up one morning and came in as if to ask to nurse , then paused mid step and said " oh, it's over" then went back to whatever it was she was doing before and never asked again. I have always thought back to that conversation and found it just fascinating. Sigh... I sure miss her, she died a few years back leaving both those girls just teenagers. Probably the wisest and kindest women I have ever met. thanks for the post, It gave me a nice bit of nostalgia. On another note, if you look in the farmers almanac, there are specific days designated as weaning times in the year.
I just started weaning my little guy.
"They" say that the waning moon is good for things you want to "shrink," like cut your hair on or after the full moon, if you like it short, and on or after the new moon, if you want it to grow faster.

Follow the Farmers Almanac for cows and livestock...seriously...works the same for pottytraining.
I wean and potty train accordingly
my 2 year old is all ready pottytrained!
it's great...I highly reccomend it, that is if you are ready for weaning!
